Relax and Recharge 2: Extreme Relaxation, Tuesday Period Two

The Dangershop looked, in a word, swanky. Bond had broken out the high class casino from a few semesters ago, and was in fact dressed to the nines.

"Good Morning," he greeted them, despite his dinner suit being better suited for evening. "Now, while most of our activities so far have involved danger to ones lives, there are those who prefer to get their thrills through danger to ones livelihood, or at least a significant portion thereof, choosing to gamble more money than many would see in their lifetime on a single bet in order to chase an elusive gambler's high." And sometimes the stakes were even higher, not that Bond was going to mention it.

"The game of the day is Texas hold 'em, a poker variation, largely because as it involves some small amount of skill to go with the luck of the draw."

Dressed up.

As he gives a quick, yet through explanation of the rules. Not that he's overly familiar with them or anything.

Wonder why you have the oddest feeling another teacher should be there too.

He cleans up very nicely.

Oooh. Okay, so, yeah, Kathy could absolutely get used to this. Drinking from champagne flutes, wearing gorgeous clothing, getting dealt into a high-stakes game where skill and luck were equally important.

Why wasn't more of her life like this?

Ringo took a few moments while Kathy was distracted to just kind of stare. Then she gathered herself and shook her head in amusement.

"It's not fair," she complained playfully. "You look way better in a dress than I do, too!" Kathy was such a cheater!

Kathy looked up from her hand and gave Ringo a wink while blowing her a kiss. She was able to keep up the cool and elegant facade for maybe another second or two before laughing and becoming normal, silly Kathy again.

"Maybe that makes up for my abysmal luck at cards," she said, waving Ringo over to take a seat at her table. "And what are you talking about? You look amazing."

Ringo rolled her eyes at Kathy's response, but she did take the indicated seat and let the dealer deal her into the next hand.

"I look fine," Ringo allowed. "But I'm definitely more 'cute' than 'elegant' or whatever." That might be because she still had her hair in pigtails, to be fair. Ringo didn't really have a lot of practice at elegant.

Honestly, Kathy pulled her hair up and let her legs do a lot of the talking. It seemed to work.

"Hairstyle and accessories," she advised. "Ms. Adler--she used to teach here as well as run a, err, store in town--said that those two things could carry any outfit, no matter what."

"Hairstyle and accessories," Ringo repeated, sounding thoughtful. "Is it really that easy?" Though even as she looked a bit doubtful, Ringo was quite excited. No one had ever really given her fashion advice before!

In fairness, most of the fashion advice Kathy was qualified to pass along was of the most basic kind. And Ringo should really see some of what she used to wear before deciding that Kathy was some kind of sartorial guru. She'd made Ms. Adler sad on several occasions.

"Can be, if you know what you're doing," she said. "I mean, even in jeans and a shirt, this hair and jewelry and stuff I'm wearing would immediately class that outfit up, right? The clothes tell people the kind of look you're going for. The hair and accessories reinforce that idea."

Or undermined it, depending.

"Well, that actually makes sense," Ringo agreed with a slow nod. "I guess, I don't really wear a lot of jewelry, and I mostly just do whatever with my hair to keep it out of my face."

She pursed her lips, considering. "Maybe," she frowned, a bit unsure of herself, "maybe I should go shopping."

"You want someone to go with you?" Kathy asked. "There are a couple of stores in Baltimore that know me. I just showed up to one, one day, and asked for help. And they pretty much dressed me so I didn't have to worry about anything other than whether I liked what they showed me."

It had started with one salesgirl who had looked at her and refused to sell her a prom gown that hid her legs and had just kind of spiraled from there. She and her friends seemed to consider Kathy their own personal mannequin to experiment on and she was so okay with that.

"Oh, really?" Ringo's eyes got big, and so did her grin. "That'd be super-helpful!"

She shrugged a bit helplessly. "I mean, I don't even know where to start, really."

"I started by throwing away three-quarters of my old wardrobe and then taking money to a store and saying, 'Help,'" Kathy said, laughing. "I can at least help you past the part where you figure out where to go."

Ringo grinned. "And you can reassure me that I don't look crazy when we're done," she added.

Kathy crossed her heart. "I solemnly swear to let you know if there's anything they put you in that I think looks weird on you."

That earned an amused giggle.

Then Ringo's expression grew a bit more serious. "Do you think I should bring my contacts, too?" She didn't wear them very often, but she did have them.

And here, Kathy didn't even know Ringo had contacts.

"...If you want to?" she said. "But if you normally wear your glasses anyway, it's probably better that you make sure everything goes with your frames."

To be fair, they were mostly a Crazy Apple thing. If you were going to get in a serious fight, you didn't want it to be possible to lose your vision.

"That's true." Ringo pursed her lips thoughtfully. "Though, maybe I should see about getting a different style? That could be cute!" Or elegant, even!

"I think your frames are pretty cute now," Kathy said. "But, hey, whatever you wanna do. This is your Who Am I? discovery phase, right?"

Reaching up to adjust her glasses, Ringo grinned. "They are pretty cute, aren't they?" she agreed happily. "But glasses are a kind of accessory, right?" She wasn't misunderstanding the term, was she?

"Well, yeah, but they're harder to change with each outfit," Kathy pointed out. "Unlike, you know, shoes or jewelry or stuff like that. Your glasses serve a particular function beyond dressing up or dressing down whatever you're wearing."

"That's true," Ringo allowed. Then she snorted in amusement. "And I suppose it'd be kind of expensive to buy a new pair of glasses for every outfit, wouldn't it?"

And money had never been something that Ringo had ever had a lot of.
