Outdoor Adventure Time!, part 2, Tuesday, period 1
Class met today on the sand below the boardwalk, where the geography of the island kept the waves to a minimum, allowing for greater underwater visibility. Eliot, wearing a pair of swimshorts and a tank top, was holding a swim mask and giving it a suspicious look. There were other masks, tanks, fins, vests, and other equipment carefully set in a line on the sand.
“How many of you are already SCUBA-certified?” Parker asked, looking hopeful. “It’s okay if you’re not. We both are, unlike last week. Eliot just has issues.”
"I don't have --" Eliot sighed. "Look, you try fightin' a spear fisherman underwater while avoiding getting shot by drug runners and see how you like it."
Parker kept talking like Eliot hadn’t said anything more combative than “It’s hot out today.”
“For those of you who want to take it easier, we do have snorkeling, which is just as fun. But if you go into the deeper water, you’ll probably see weirder and more beautiful things! Or possibly find shipwrecks! Or pearls!”
Yeah, Parker was in it for the treasure.
"Or a damned seamonster," Eliot muttered. "Swear to god, one of these days I'm gonna get tossed into this water and end up fighting that damned seamonster. . . ."

SCUBA! Or snorkel
Bonus points if you get a selfie with an octopus.
Talk to the teachers
Talk to the TA
OOC
Eliot's more likely to catch it and cook it up for dinner.
Re: Talk to the teachers
Eliot's just that talented.
Re: Talk to the teachers
Also, you don't find treasure on clouds.

Grump grump grump grump.
Re: Talk to the teachers
Would fighting them make you feel better about being right, Eliot?
Re: Talk to the teachers
He shook his head. I'll just keep an eye out for -- stuff.
Like sea monsters. Or ghost pirates. Or . . . something.
Re: Talk to the teachers
She had to spell out 'doubloons', but still. She got her point across. Then she did a slow and lazy somersault, just because she could.
An eeeeeeeeee! of happy bubbles trailed out of her.
Re: Talk to the teachers
The way the light was refracted by the water made that finger-spelling slightly hard to follow.
Re: Talk to the teachers
Parker did a slow spin, then gave Eliot the universal look of And You Call Me Crazy?
Re: Talk to the teachers
It was a testament to how well they knew each other that they could make out these expressions even behind SCUBA masks.

As for being bouncy--everyone was bouncy beneath the waves. But it was so much slower. If being below the waves wasn't so gorgeous, Kathy would actually be a little annoyed by it.

But she really, really wanted to try the SCUBA thing.
Life was full of difficult decisions.

She couldn't, but honestly it was the snorkel she really thought was odd anyway.
Re: SCUBA! Or snorkel
Of course it wasn't, and after twenty minutes or so of fiddling around with the equipment until she thought she could reasonably maneuver underwater, she took her camera and was snapping away.
The pictures probably weren't that good, and weren't of anything particularly noteworthy, but she was taking pictures of things underwater, and that was amazing enough in itself, all right?

She wasn't taking pictures, but she was looking around a lot. And she had her longest knife strapped to her leg, just in case.
