Creative Inspirations, Monday, Period One
Today's class was instructed (yes, already, on day one) to meet on the Causeway, where they were going to be catching a portal. Their teachers were already standing there waiting for them; Jono in his usual leathers, Hannibal as impeccably dressed as always. Once a headcount had been done to ascertain that everyone who was coming to class today had arrived, they were ushered through without much preamble, into a queue on the other side, where it was just prior to sunset. It was there that their teachers started to talk.
//Welcome,// Jono said, nodding to the group. If anyone was shocked by his voice by this point, he certainly didn't seem concerned enough to stop before pressing on, //to Creative Inspirations. Yes, I'm aware that it's too bloody early in the day to be inspired by much without coffee first, but the hope is that what we're showing you will do the trick all the same. We'll talk more about the class itself once we're through this queue, however. First, let's get some names out of you, so we know who we're hollering for if you wander off too far on your own.//
The 'like a complete nit' wasn't spoken, but it was heavily implied. Jono was a tender touch that way.
If anyone was startled by Jono's voice at this point, Hannibal would be worried about their intellectual capacity. "Along with your names," he added, "we should like to know what sorts of art you are interested in pursuing, whether song, dance, painting, sculpture, or something less traditional. So, to start - I am Doctor Hannibal Lecter, and I primarily sketch and compose, although I enjoy many forms of art." Some of which he would not be showing the class. "I also play keyboard instruments, my preference being for harpsichord, and the theremin." He looked at Jono expectantly.
//And I'm Jonothon Starsmore. Please, just Jon or Jono will do. I get twitchy when I hear the word 'professor.'// For reasons. //I'm not much good at visual arts. I couldn't draw a stick-man to save my life. But performing arts are something of a calling to me. I used to play guitar in pubs, once upon a time. And more recently, I ran the Boards in town. I… should do something with that some time soon, come to think of it.// Thank you, Jon, for remembering that you technically ran more businesses than just the Groovy Tunes. //Er. That is to say, music, acting, and very occasionally dance are all things I've dabbled in.//
And about now the students might be realizing why this introduction hadn't been done on the island; the teal deer would be having a fit. "So," Hannibal finished, "while we wait for the boat to board, please tell us your names and your art."
The teachers waited for the class to be finished with their introductions…just in time to board the boat. And then, the lecture continued. Because of course it did, with these two.
//Good, then. As I said before, welcome to Creative Inspirations. If you're one of those people who happens to be in this class because of a paperwork error… I'd apologize or tell you to go and cry to the moose or something, but really, we hope this will be an interesting workshop all the same.//
Or an excuse to take a field trip once a week. One of those.
Jono shrugged. What could you do, right? //We'll be conducting each lesson in two parts. First, the 'inspiration' bit. That'd be where we take you lot out to see things you might not otherwise get to see, or just things we think are worth taking a closer look at than you otherwise might.//
"These may not always be beautiful or pleasant things," Hannibal said. "If they make you uncomfortable, that can also be inspiring, and hopefully you will learn something. If you feel you truly are unable to handle anything, for any reason, let one of us know."
Jono would probably be the more sympathetic bet there. He nodded his agreement before pressing on.
//The next bit will be after we've returned to the school, near the end of class. That'll be when you take what you've seen, and, hopefully, use it to inspire some manner of creativity. Draw something, sing something, do interpretive dance about it, write poetry. The sky is the limit, there.//
"And because the nature of creativity is likely to mean you won't finish, consider that your homework." Yes, you actually picked the one class with homework. Hannibal shrugged. "We expect that if you are inspired, you will keep working on things throughout the week. It isn't necessary, but it is encouraged. At the end of the term, we look forward to seeing what else you've come up with."
//Is that it? I think that's it,// Jono noted, tilting his head thoughtfully. //So… without further ado? Niagara Falls.//
Hannibal smiled. "Enjoy the boat trip."

Re: The Classroom!
"Fooooooooor the first time in forever," she sang, probably to the surprise of her classmates,
"There were rainbows all around!
They exploded out in colors
They were pouring on the ground"
She spun with her arms out, and her skirt twirled around her!
"Don't know what holiday that was,
But I'm sure it's something grand!"
She leaped up onto the teacher's desk for a grand finale.
"'Cause for the first time in forever,
I just have to dance!"
She pirouetted off the desk again, landing the dismount nicely and seguing it into a curtsy. "That didn't rhyme very well," she said, frowning at the last stanza. And then, the frown grew more serious. "I ... don't know what came over me, just now."
Blame the rainbows, Anna. That would probably be best.
Re: The Classroom!
At all.
And was now standing and kind of blinking for a moment, before... well...
Look, except for the last stanza, it had been pretty impressive, and dancing on the desk aside, he was going to clap. Why not? Clearly, she'd been inspired.

Re: The Classroom!
She spun. "I didn't mean for that to be my creativity," she added. "I'm working on a painting. I just ... I suppose I got inspired?"
