Foreign Lit/Classics, 3/02, Period 2

"Hello.

As we discussed Monday, you should turn in the written portions of your midterms today. They are to be critical reactions to the appropriate readings, 100 words for Classics students, 200 words for Foreign Literature.

Miss Santos, Mr. Dane, and Miss Bristow, you have been granted extensions to the end of break to complete these. Email them to me by March 10.

After you have turned in your papers, you may watch a film.

I will see you on the 13th, when Classics students will begin studying Latin and literature students will commence reading Asian literature."

Nadia frowned. "At least you did 'kick ass'. I was pretty useless."

Nadia wasn't about to admit that as far as she could remember, she had just fallen over and hit her head. Of course, Sydney could be right. The details of the fight were pretty fuzzy. "I think I got one. I'm not really sure."

Nadia smiled back a little weakly. It was nice of everyone to say so, but after fighting the snow monsters and the monsters at Jack's birthday party, she rather felt that she should have taken care of more than one robot. "I guess. Um, thanks for . . . helping me out." She frowned. "You were one of the ones who saved me, right? I think I remember you being there, but . . . ." She shrugged.

Nadia shuddered slightly. "There was? That's . . . really creepy." She rubbed her eyes. "Now I'll never have normal dreams." She smiled to show she was joking . . . mostly. "At least everyone's okay."

Nadia frowned. "I don't. I speak Spanish and English, and some Russian."

Nadia tensed automatically, even as she remained confused. "What? That's silly. I-I don't. . . ." She rubbed at her head again. "I really said that?"

"I-I don't know. It sounds a little familiar, but," she hugged herself. "That's really weird."

"I . . . guess," Nadia shook her head again. "That's still really weird, though. Do you know what it means?"

Nadia totally didn't notice that Sydney had avoided her question. "Weird," she said again. "Did I say anything else weird?"

Nadia rubbed at her head again, thinking about what she might have said. "Can you write down that phrase for me? Maybe I can find out where I've heard it."

Nadia bit her lip. She'd prefer to get it sooner rather than later, since odds were against her being able to concentrate on the movie now, but she didn't want to push her friend. "Yeah. Okay. Thanks."
