Outdoor Adventure Time!, Tuesday, period 1

The class met up at the edge of the preserve again, this time, where Eliot and Parker waited, wearing white coveralls and safety goggles on their heads. The usual duffel bags of supplies were on the ground by their feet, and accompanied by several large buckets of what looked like balloons.

"Slightly different plan today," Eliot said, when it seemed like everyone was gathered. "We're sticking together as a group."

“If you don’t want to play, you can hide, but really, why would you want to?” Parker would never get that. “Everybody gets a set of coveralls, and goggles. The paint is biodegradable, but let’s not test what it does to your eyes.”

"It does wash outta your hair, though," Eliot said with a wink. "I promise."

What? Those folks with fancy hair had to stick together.

"We'll be hiking out to a clearing before we get started. There are four buckets of paint balloons here, with a few more already tucked away out there, so lots of chances to re-arm yourselves. I guess . . . technically if you come out clean by the end of class you won? But then you probably also didn't have any fun. We're not really plannin' to keep score."

“Grab a color, grab a cover, get ready, go!” Parker was holding a balloon with blue paint.

Yes, Eliot was going to be blue very very soon.

Yeah, he was getting that feeling.

"When we get to the clearing," Eliot said. "I see any balloons flying before then, I will be very put out."

Pbbbbbbttt.

Never fear! Mabel was equipped to handle this!

"Grappling hook!"

Yes, she still carried that around with her to class. One never knew when a grappling hook would come in handy, out here in the woods.

So, there was Mabel, dangling safely from a tree branch as the alot stampeded along harmlessly underneath.

"If you say so!"

Mabel really had no intention of coming down from her tree branch just yet, anyway. It was the best place possible for throwing more balloons down at the alot, after all.

Have a purple one! Hopefully it would even land on the animal, instead of the teacher!

Mabel was quite happy to give Eliot a thumbs-up right back! Score one for Team Paint Balloon!

Look, if he was going to ride the alot, Mabel was going to do everything she could to try to help out! And if her only weapon happened to be an armload of balloons full of paint, she was going to use them!

... While hanging there. From her grappling hook.

Never leave home without it.

"That, I can do," Mabel declared, throwing a few more balloons down, off to the side of the alot. Mostly pelting the thing along the flank with them, granted, and taking a few moments here and there to kind of reel herself up so that she could perch in the tree branch that she'd grabbed with her grappling hook.

It was a step up from dangling, after all.

Bonus! Because wow, wouldn't it be traumatic if someone were to get crushed by a stampeding alot or something?

Even Mabel probably wouldn't handle that one well.

"INCOMIIIIING!"

Yeah, she was going to just announce every balloon she threw until she was out of them, now.

"Well, there's plenty more where that came from," Mabel declared, pelting more paint balloons at it.

... Where she was pulling them from at this point was anybody's best guess.

"Eat purple, yak-potato!"

Physics were absolutely a suggestion that Mabel was open to listening to, it was true!

Mabel tossed one more balloon at it for good measure. And then just sort of peered down at it from her perch in the tree.

"... Is it done throwing its tantrum now?"

It looked like it, but one could never be too certain with those giant sentient mop beasts.

"Maybe you tired him out?"

Mabel pursed her lips for a moment, and then threw another balloon at the brown spot, just to see what would happen.

Mabel, meanwhile, was scooting her way down the tree trunk. It didn't seem like the alot was terribly dangerous now, after all, and if it did turn out to be some sort of clever yak-pug trap, it would be easy enough to climb back up the tree, anyway.

"Actually, I think he's kind of friendly now," Mabel offered, holding out one green hand (thanks for that, Dipper) for the creature to sniff. "Or at least too lazy to do any more charging."

She kind of wanted to keep it.

"Awww! Yes you can... eat... the paint?"

Actually, that was kind of disgusting, and left Mabel's bangs dripping wet and sticking up in weird directions.

Mabel had regrets, now.

"We could throw a bunch of paint balloons out of the clearing," Mabel suggested, making her way over to Eliot in the hopes that maybe she could avoid a second licking. "If it likes the paint that much, maybe it will follow them?"

"I have..." Mabel gave her green and purple self a quick pat-down with one yellow hand and one blue one, and then surfaced with two more purple balloons and a pink one. "Three!"

... How? Didn't matter. Maybe if Mabel and Pinkie ever wound up in a room together they could commiserate over things like 'unlikely balloon storage space' and whatnot.

"Alright!" Mabel offered up balloon number three, and then grinned broadly. "Okay, paint buffalo! Eat this!"

And then she was launching those balloons off into the woods with all of her might.

Girl had a pretty impressive throwing arm.
