Outdoor Adventure Time!, Tuesday, period 1

The class met up at the edge of the preserve again, this time, where Eliot and Parker waited, wearing white coveralls and safety goggles on their heads. The usual duffel bags of supplies were on the ground by their feet, and accompanied by several large buckets of what looked like balloons.

"Slightly different plan today," Eliot said, when it seemed like everyone was gathered. "We're sticking together as a group."

“If you don’t want to play, you can hide, but really, why would you want to?” Parker would never get that. “Everybody gets a set of coveralls, and goggles. The paint is biodegradable, but let’s not test what it does to your eyes.”

"It does wash outta your hair, though," Eliot said with a wink. "I promise."

What? Those folks with fancy hair had to stick together.

"We'll be hiking out to a clearing before we get started. There are four buckets of paint balloons here, with a few more already tucked away out there, so lots of chances to re-arm yourselves. I guess . . . technically if you come out clean by the end of class you won? But then you probably also didn't have any fun. We're not really plannin' to keep score."

“Grab a color, grab a cover, get ready, go!” Parker was holding a balloon with blue paint.

Yes, Eliot was going to be blue very very soon.

Yeah, he was getting that feeling.

"When we get to the clearing," Eliot said. "I see any balloons flying before then, I will be very put out."

Pbbbbbbttt.

Eliot pushed a strand of now blue hair out of his eyes. "Really," he said with a sigh. "I'd always heard I looked better in red."

"Red is like blood," Parker said matter-of-factly. "Or ketchup. I think blue is more you. You look good in a cop's uniform too."

"It's also the color of sunsets," Eliot said. "Or fire." You liked fire, Parker!

Stay nice and close, now, so Eliot can get you with this green balloon.

Well, yes, she did. But she didn't want Eliot to be on fire!

"Sunsets are good. But so are skies. And oceans!" Parker pointed out, eeling around a tree. Just, you know. Hanging out here. Behind this tree.

"Parker," Eliot said, exasperated. "Why are you hiding behind a tree?"

Just let him hit you with a paint balloon, geez!

Yes, yes they are. Yup. That was it.

Also she needed to get another balloon.

"That's ridiculous," Eliot said. "Didn't you just roll your eyes at students who wanted to hide?"

And eeeeeeeee! there's another balloon, Eliot! And some cackling.

Eliot deflected automatically with his arm -- and ended up with a painted arm. "You're just going to keep doing that all day, aren't you?"

"Maybe?" Although if she'd been seriously trying to hide, she would've shut up by now.

If she were really trying to hide, she'd've vanished by now.

Eliot waited patiently for his moment to strike. "Uh huh. You know I've met you before, right?"

More snickering, and time to reload. "But it's not like the kids will manage to get any hits on you!"

"They might." It was pretty unlikely. "Some of them are pretty sneaky."

"Tchah. Riiiight."

And an arm snakes out to snag more ammo!

Eliot noted the arm. And waited patiently. He couldn't actually outsneak Parker -- he could almost match her sneakiness, if he concentrated enough -- but he could absolutely out-patient her. Any day.

"Plus, you know, some of them probably have magic powers."

"They could gang up on you, but otherwise..." Yeah, Parker didn't see it working otherwise.

She waited. And waited. Aaaand waited some more. And waited.

"...are you still there?"

Eliot smiled his slightly creepy smile and waited silently.

"Eliot!" Shouted very fast, hoping to startle him into making some noise.

That didn't happen. Aaaaahhh okay time to run! With the balloon at the ready!

Eliot darted forward to grab her around the shoulders and smash the green balloon down on her head.

Hey, it was probably going to be his only shot (unless she let him get in another one, like he had with her). He was going to make it count.

"AHHH!" Parker spluttered, green in her hair and ringing around her goggles, and then *FOOSH* there was blue aimed at Eliot's hair. "Sneaky SNEAKER!"

Eliot probably could've dodged, but he was laughing too hard. "Hey, I didn't have to do anything. Just wait for you to come to me."

"You do that well. Yes. Did you practice it fishing?" Damnit. Parker examined her hands and hair, and perked up minutely. "At least I'm the color of money." Yay!
