Magical Theory (Wednesday, 3/01/2006, 4th Period)

"All right, guys, today is pretty easy stuff, because there's no lecture to listen to. I'm going to hand out dreams to you guys, and you're going to stand up in front of the class and interpret someone else's dream for us. And then? We can discuss it."

ETA: Sorry this went up so late, guys. The three and a half hour conference call at work today fried my brain, and I'd left my flash drive at home, where I had all the coding for the OCD threads. I didn't want to redo it (see above re: fried brain), so I just copy/pasted where I could in between dealing with RL.

Shockingly, Xander is actually here. Cut-and-bruise-bedecked, and not looking like he slept well, but here.

"Xander, you feeling okay?" asked Jenny. "What happened? It's not like you to miss class."

"And could you picture the day those words would come out of your mouth, three years ago?" he asked. "Everybody in the first-hour Shop Class got locked in the danger room. Evil robots attacked."

Xander snickered. "See, now that? I bet you could picture three years ago, for some reason."

{...ask me why the subject-line changed. I... have no answer, but ask me anyway. For laughs. O.o}

"I could picture exactly that." Jenny laughed. "Only difference is that I'm not the only one who realizes that it's not a lame excuse. You have time to scribble up some kind of dream journal for me?"

OOC: I was imagining it was because of some sort of rupture in the space-time continuum?

"Yup. It's not great, but it's there."

"Piper, here's the dream you'll be interpreting for us."

Piper read the the dream and pondered for a moment what it could possibly mean.

"This person feels held back, I think, and wants to be set free," Piper said thoughtfully. "I think the cage represents feeling trapped like a bird stuck with nowhere to fly. Maybe this person might feel guilt about something, too."

"Good interpretation, Piper," said Jenny. "What in the dream made you think that this person might feel guilty?"

"The bird cage could represent a prison. Most people held in a prison are guilty of something," Piper said.

"Belthazor, you'll be interpreting this dream for the class."

Bel looked over the dream. "Um, this person is feeling guilty about something, and the guilt is holding them back, like the dead girl holding on to their leg," he said uncertainly. "They're also trying to ignore something when they should be accepting it instead. Whatever it is has something to do with sight I think because the dead girl's eyes are so prominent in the dream. Maybe the person saw something bad and didn't tell anyone about it, and now feels guilty? They should accept that what's done is done and try to do something about it in the future?"

"Thanks, Belthazor," said Jenny.

Cordelia blanched when Bel was speaking, and really started to regret writing that dream down.

"Here's the subject dream for you, Paige."

"Maia, take a look at this dream and tell us what you think."

"I decided to do the one from the 25th. This person is running from responsibility for an action they did not set into motion. They try to solve it anyway and then find the solution is in fact the very thing they were running from in the first place and it consumes them."

"Still, the dreamer woke before being consumed," said Jenny. "Do you think that's significant to the dream?"

"Perhaps it means they can change their course of action and avoid consumption by the responsibility. But then again, it might have just been similar to waking up before you hit the ground when you dream you've fallen off a building... I am not sure to be honest with you Ms. Calendar."

((OOC: Mun must go to bed now))

"Cordelia, this is the dream I want you to talk about."

Cordelia read the dream and thought about it for a minute.

"Well, I think that maybe there is something in this person's life that is clouding their judgement. Maybe a habit they can't get rid of, or a friendship that is making them not see things clearly, as they should be. And whatever it is has a pretty tight grip on the person, and won't allow the person to give it or them up without a struggle of their own."

"So what symbolism led you to interpret the dream that way?" asked Jenny.

"The fog, blocking her view of the water," Cordy said. "I guess I kind of was seeing the water as something important that she needed, like how we need water to survive. Oh. If the dreamer was human. I didn't think about that."

"Kiki, why don't you let us know how you feel about this dream."

"I think this person may be dealing with some sort of emotional abandonment as a child. In the dream, the person is abandoned while at a baby shower, with everyone turning their backs on the person. However, I'm not sure what the toy clown represents. Happiness, perhaps? In remaining with the crib, intending to give the doll to the child, the person may be affirming that they will not abandon the child, or perhaps the future, and is instead actually capable of giving it happiness."

"I still need work from Xander, Sakura, Logan, and Alex."

"I've got mine. It's kind of lame, because I haven't managed to remember my dreams for a couple nights in a row, so the best I could do was describe one that I tend to have a lot."

{And of course that's the one that he really had, which just worked out best as something that would bother the crap out of Xander without him consciously remembering it.}

OOC: *loves you for both of those* I'm going to hold off on the IC response 'til someone else comes in with 'overdue' work, though, so I can pair you both up.
