School Auditorium: MSND rehearsal (4-7 PM FHT)

There are snacks and assorted beverages on a table to the side, and the house lights are up.

The stage lighting is still a little beyond Rory, so the simple overhead fluorescents will have to do for the day.

And by the door, there's a sign-in sheet.

Actors? Your stage awaits.

Veronica oddly didn't have anything on her schedule aside from planning for Logan's birthday, so she decided to swing by play rehearsal to ~~mock~~ support her boyfriend.

She spotted Angel and went to sit near him, figuring she could kill two birds with one stone.

"Hey," she greeted him with a grin. "What are you doing here?"

"Supporting Callisto," Angel said. "You?"

"Hoping to find out Logan has to wear tights," she admitted with a smirk. "But I needed to talk to you about something," she added, lowering her voice.

"If Logan enjoys wearing tights that doesn't mean anything about you," Angel said. "Some guys are into that and women at the same time. It's okay."

Veronica shook her head. "I personally think Logan would look cute in tights," she said. "And, yes, what I want to talk to you about has to do with Logan, but it's not that."

She glanced around to make sure no one was paying attention, but everyone else seemed to be actually, you know, rehearsing and stuff. "Did you know that tomorrow is Logan's birthday?" she asked in a low voice.

Angel looked surprised. Then worried. "No. I didn't. Um - wow. Okay. Do you think I should get him something? Do you think he'd like that? I don't know if we're at gifts yet. It's a weird thing."

Veronica gave Angel a curious look. "Is there something about your relationship with Logan I should know?" she asked. "Cause as far as I know, it's never weird to buy your friends birthday presents."

"Well yeah, but," Angel shrugged, looking uncomfortable. "There's the whole thing where last year my unsouled self tried to kill him. I get if he's not as comfortable around me as his other friends. I've been trying not to overstep my welcome."

This line of conversation was making Veronica distinctly uncomfortable given recent circumstances.

"Yeah, well, he invited you into his house before it collapsed," she pointed out. "So I'd say that if you want to buy him a present, it won't be too awkward. Did you get the email I sent about the surprise party on Friday?"

"No, haven't had a chance to check my Blackberry yet," Angel said. "Which is a shame 'cause I'm kind of hungry. I take it the party's for Logan?"

Veronica didn't even to attempt to translate that out of Angel-speak.

"Yes, the party is for Logan. It's a surprise. But here's what I was hoping you could help me with," she said. "Tomorrow is his actual birthday. Now, I usually work Thursdays but I arranged to take tomorrow night off and I want to surprise him with a... more, um, private celebration," she said, flushing slightly. "You know, a romantic dinner type thing. In his room. But I need someone to keep him out of the room between like 5 and 6 tomorrow so I can set everything up."

It suddenly occurred to Veronica that asking the guy she used to have a crush on to help her set up a romantic dinner for her boyfriend was quite possibly too awkward.

If Angel felt any of that awkardness, it didn't show on his face. If anything, he looked thrilled to be asked. "Yeah. Sure. That'd be great. I could ask him to stop by when I see him in class tomorrow. Just from 5 to 6?"

"Yeah, I ordered dinner from Cafe Fina and it's going to be ready at 5, so I'll need to get in his room after that to get ready," she said with a smile. "It would be a huge help for me not to have to worry about him getting back too soon."

"Veronica, I'd love to," Angel said. He grinned. "I'm good at being sneaky. He'll never know what's really going on."

She grinned back. "Thank you so much, Angel. And I hope you and Cal can make it on Friday. It's going to be a joint party for Logan and Jake."

"...are you sure Jake and I should be at the same place at the same time?"

"Why not?" she asked, confused.

"'cause he hates me for kissing his boyfriend and then ruined my clothes!"

Yes, Angel was still pouty about this.

Veronica blinked. Then managed to put together a bunch of random facts in her head. She was, however, unsuccessful at holding in her giggles.

"Maybe you should buy him a nice birthday present," she suggested through her laughter.

"For ruining my clothes?"

"For kissing his boyfriend," she clarified.

She tilted her head and looked at him thoughtfully. "Do you make it a habit to kiss other people's boyfriends?"

"Once! It happened once!" Angel protested. "Besides, Cal asked me to."

Veronica considered this and probably blushed at the thought that crossed her mind.

"Okay, so, tomorrow, you'll make sure Logan's not in his room between five and six?" she asked.

[and i totally misspelled six...]

"Promise," Angel said, totally unable to read her mind and also unaware that right now that was probably a good thing. "I'll do my best to make the party too. The UK trip's leaving on Saturday and I'll need to pack. But, you know, Logan. Oh, hey - can I ask a favor for a favor?"

"Of course," she said. "What can I do for you?"
