Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2015, Early Saturday Evening [Part 1]

Right after sunset, to make sure all types of guests could safely attend, the ceremony for graduation was ready to go. The lawn of the school had been lit up with blue and gold lights, creating safe paths for everyone to get to the seating area. There were blue and gold streamers flapping peacefully in the breeze, and of course, the makeshift paths were covered in glitter.

Look, if the supply wasn't going down, Zoe was just going to embrace the glitter madness for the sake of her own personal sanity.

Congratulations, Class of 2015! You made it to graduation day! Now you just had to get through the ceremony. At least nothing looked oddly out of place this year?

"Why hello there," Karla said, in that voice adults used on stranger children--only to realize halfway through who she was talking to. "Yeul? Yeul!"

And now the wee munchkin was getting lifted up and hugged tightly. "Hello, darling! I'm so glad to see you!"

Yeul giggled and hugged Karla back, though not as tightly.

"I am sorry I left so suddenly," she said, which was a reasonably tactful way to say 'I'm sorry I died'. "It is lovely to see you again."

"It wasn't your fault, sweetheart," Karla assured her. "Though this does mean that you'll have to visit again. I know Uncle Saetan will be glad to see you, too."

"If you wish for me to visit, I will," she said, smiling a bit and pushing the (simplified) version of her hairpiece back a little, since it had begun to slide out of place again. "I expect that I owe Saetan an apology as well."

"He would disagree, but you're welcome to offer one anyway," Karla said, holding the hairpiece still so tiny fingers could fasten it more easily. "And of course you ought to visit. You still have yet to meet my daughter, after all. And I want to see Caius and Lucivar meet. I'm not sure my drawing room will survive it, but I'm game to see it happen anyway."

"Thank you," Yeul said, as she fiddled with the hair piece until it was back into place. "I am certain your daughter is as lovely as you are."

Yeul contemplated the rest of Karla's words.

"I think that Caius may enjoy meeting Lucivar, if that is the case of things. Though, should I visit, I must ask if it would be well with you that Liara comes as well? She has decided to accompany Caius and I."

"Well, Kayla's currently teething, which means she's fussy and drooly right now," Karla said with a laugh, giving an approving nod to show the hair piece was centered correctly. "So, yes, my Court would agree that the resemblance is striking."

Because her Court was made up of a bunch of smartasses.

"And of course Liara can accompany you!" Karla vaguely remembered Liara from their schooldays. Bookish was what really stood out, that and the blue. "I have an entire library about civilizations she's never heard of, and Saetan and the Keep have libraries that put mine to shame. I'm pretty sure we have something to keep you all entertained while you visit."

"I am easily entertained," Yeul admitted, since it was nothing but the truth. "But Liara would appreciate the books. Caius, too."

"I've got so many card games to teach you," Karla said, a grin that would have Warren running for the hills if he saw it. "I bet you'd love cradle. It's something you can make Caius play with you sometimes."

"I don't know it," Yeul said happily. "So it will keep you from being bored if I visit."

Because that was the real concern, right?

"But it would be awkward for others for you to teach me now," she observed. "And I thought I might ask instead if you had any photos of Kayla."

"I like spending time with you," Karla said simply. "I wouldn't be bored. But since you asked..."

Oh tiny!Yeul. You had no idea what you were in for. Karla called in the baby books that traveled with her everywhere. Books, plural.

"I also have video on my phone," she said, opening up the first book. "But this is probably better for the ceremony."

"Less disruptive," Yeul said agreeably, resting her head against Karla's body. "We wouldn't want to take attention away from the graduating class."

Which both Yeul and Liara would've been part of, had things been a little different. It was pleasant being here today, though not on stage.

"I can only grudgingly agree, because if anyone deserves to take attention away from the seniors, it's Kayla," Karla declared with an indulgent smile, "but I'm not a very polite person anyway."

She tucked her arm around Yeul and held her close. She was glad that Caius and Liara had managed to find her so young, but that wasn't going to stop Karla from spending the whole time they had together reinforcing the idea that Yeul was safe and loved, not for what she could do but for who she was.

"I don't see Caius here, I'm noting. Where'd he wander off to?"

"He couldn't get a portal here," Yeul said, smiling slightly. "He is put out about that, but conceded that Liara might do an okay job in his stead."

He'd only gritted his teeth a little, Karla! It was progress!

Karla looked suitably impressed by that. "Is he softening a bit in his old age?" she asked. "Or should I be terrified of what Liara can do if she decides you're in danger?"
