There wasn't a holo set up for today, students. Instead you were faced with two Jedi, one of whom had an extremely sour, even for him, look on his face.

"Right. Apparently we need to have a little discussion on not buying creepy cursed items from guys who sound evil," Anakin began.

Obi-Wan took a deep breath. "Anakin," he said, "He did not 'sound evil'. We are teaching an Ethics class. Let us not venture into 'judging people for their parents' choices'."

Anakin made a face at him. "Fiiiiiiine. Don't buy creepy cursed items from guys who are definitely evil."

He stomped on the floor. "Talking to you, too, Fandom."

"Good a lesson as that is, I do not believe it is something that will come up very often for our class," Obi-Wan said mildly, turning to face them. "However, the pursuit of one's heart's desire... and what is justified in doing so... that may be a valuable thing to speak about."

Side-eyeing you a bit, Anakin.

Anakin certainly wasn't blushing at all. Nope. Nothing to see here. Move along. He coughed. "We understand wanting something to be a different way, or seemingly pointless rules that might be preventing you from achieving what you want. We just want to you to stop and think about potential consequences before leaping."

Or marrying in secret. Ahem.

"The classic rule of thumb is that your gains should end where another's suffering begins," Obi-Wan said. "However, in reality, these situations are rather more complex. What is more important than the one thing you may have wanted all your life, that may depend entirely on your situation, your morality, and the world you grew up in."

Anakin nodded. "Like if you really really wanted to be ruling a galaxy with an iron first, other people suffering is not going to be a major philosophical hurdle for you."

"That would be the other extreme," Obi-Wan said, "But... yes. I thought this may be as good a discussion as any: how much does what you want most matter? And how far should anyone be allowed to go for it?"

Yeah, see, this is why Soren hadn't been tempted by any of the shopkeeper's items. He'd already been granted his boon.

"If you're a god, then what you want most usually matters more than the lives of mortals," Soren said with a derisive snort. "As for myself... I've some experience with this, actually. I went on a quest not too long ago, and the reward was to be a boon granted by Odin Alfather. I thought I'd ask for what I'd wanted all my life, to no longer be a berserker. But when the time came- I asked for something else entirely." And although he still wasn't fond of being a berserker, he'd more or less come to accept it was just a part of who he was.

"All laws, or just the major ones?" Anakin asked with a slight smile. "Would you jaywalk? Speed?"

"What do you count as hurting, then?" Anakin said. "Hard feelings? Actual physical bruises?"

"Why did you change your mind?" Anakin asked.

There were days Obi-Wan was impressed with Anakin's prowess as a teacher.

And then there were days like this.

He looked ready to sigh at any moment, was what it came down to.

This was what Kathy had been expecting more of: a disappointed chastisement in the guise of a lecture. She sank down in her seat and tried not to look at anyone--especially Minako.

"I fell in love," Soren admitted, the barest hint of something that might be termed a goofy smile appearing on his face.

In your face, Obi-Wan. Hahahahahaha.

Anakin smiled. "So what did you ask for instead?"

"Such as what?" Anakin asked.

"Her existence was to be erased from the Middle World," Soren said, his smile losing some of that goofiness. "That, by the way, would be how far a god was willing to get what she wanted. But I asked not to forget her."

Anakin's eyes looked stricken. "Did it work?"

"No one in my world remembers that she exists," Soren confirmed. "But there are four days in a year that we are permitted to spend together."
