Comprehending Science & Technology, 1st Period - Monday

"Last week involved selfies--I'm honestly not even surprised by that," Tony said once his class was there. "Thanks, Johnny."

He'd regret making you TA, but it could have been worse. Doom could have showed up!

Tony scratched his chin, frowning. "So, things are weird in town. How about we work on something productive that'll keep you in the dorms." And safe from harms way. He was like that, kids. "Each of you have a box of parts and some basic directions. See what you can build me in a week."

Well that was vague. And Tony should probably not treat this like something basic, but you know. Tony and robotics.

"And stay out of trouble."

Just like was prone to not doing.

"What kind of weapon?"

Four rummaged through the box. "Projectile. Knives look flashy but I don't like being in that close if I can avoid it."

Tony had to frown at that. Because he was a responsible adult.

Somewhere Pepper was sighing.

"I'm not really in the weapons making business," he replied slowly. "Anymore."

"...anymore?" Four repeated.

"Anymore." Look, this was all common knowledge to people back home. "Bad experience with that. Why do you want to make a weapon?"

"Because it's getting creepy outside and if I'm going to be in my room, I'm going to want something to defend myself," Four replied.

Tony continued to give him a look, trying to figure out if this was going to end in things exploding and a new arch nemesis.

"How about we see what you can make with that. And in the meantime I loan you something."

That wasn't strictly a weapon as asked.

"Not a paint gun."

Just checking, Tony.

"Not a paint gun," Tony assured him, grabbing his briefcase to open and dig through. After a moment he produced a metal cuff that was promptly tossed at Four.

Four snagged it easily, examined it with a slight frown and put it onto his left wrist.

"Flex your wrist," Tony said, demonstrating like he was holding a certain shield.

Four did so, bracing his legs slightly and making sure his cuff wasn't facing any of the other students.

No laser gun or anything fancy like that. Sorry, Four. This wasn't cosmic Marvel.

Instead an energy shield sprang up like it was hanging off Four's forearm.

"Tada. Made it for a friend when ... well, it's not important."

Damn Skrulls.

"It'll deflect anything short of a god. So, try not to piss off Thor and you'll be fine."

"Holy shit!" Four said, eyes wide as he looked at the shield.

It was probably a little tacky to wonder if it could come in a slightly less gaudy shade, right?

"Thank you!"

Damn right it was. This was 'Murcah.

"You can throw it too."

"Oooooh," Four said. "How? Will it come back?"

"Designed to come back." If you managed to mess that up, Tony would be impressed. "treat it like a real shield. You can grab it like one."

"This is amazing and I would take it apart to see how it works, but I kind of want it to keep working," Four replied.

That got Tony to grin. "I'll put it back together if you want to try."

If Four wanted to admit defeat and give it back for fixing.

"After the weirdness," Four decided, grinning back.
