Advanced Journalism (Tuesday, February 28 - 2nd period)

"Hello, boy and girls. Today we're talking about our midterm. You'll have a test on journalistic techniques and the material we've covered thus far this term - and no, nothing involving animals or hats will be on it. I suggest you go over your notes and projects from this term."

She smiled sweetly. "Questions? And I brought you all biscuits, should you want them." She waved vaguely at a box on her desk, which had sugar cookies from J, GoB.

Rita rolled her eyes.

"Would you mind standing up, Mr. Crichton? Please?"

"Um." John swallows. "My feet are kind of cut up and stuff. Do I really need to stand?"

"I could levitate you, if you'd prefer."

"No, no, that's all right." John pulls himself up and tries to stand somewhere comfortable. "Ta-da!"

And with that, Rita turned his desk into a fishbowl with water (presumably saltwater) in it, and with a muttered incantation and a wave of her wand, she turned John into a seahorse and dropped him into the bowl.

John...is underwater! His first thought is to immediately swim to the surface and, when he does get to the surface, he finds that he's wants to go back down and swim.

He has the sudden urge to sing Under the Sea and...he's a fricking light orange seahorse. ORANGE. That is not his color.

He goes to curse at Rita...and blows wee tiny bubbles.

Rory mushed her cookie up and dropped a few crumbs onto the surface of the water for the wee seashorsie.

And then she snapped a picture, a little sadly.

Under the sea
Under the sea
Darling it's better
Down where it's wetter
Take it from me
Up on the shore they work all day
Out in the sun they slave away

The soft crumble of something on the surface breaks John the Seahorse out of his song and he zooms up to the surface to chew on the cookies. When Rory takes a picture, he becomes confused and runs into the side of the bowl.

Ouch.

"Oh noes!" Rory said sadly, peering into the bowl. "Are you okay, John? Can you even hear me?"

Walk on the ocean
Step on the stones
Flesh becomes water
World becomes home

John can hear Rory but there is no way to communicate. No way! No talkie! No lungs! OMGWTFGILLS!

Rory curiously tapped on the side of the bowl with one finger.

John the Seahorse swims near her finger and bumps the glass. Then, he swims all the way to the other side of the glass and floats there.

THEN HE CHARGES RORY'S FINGER....!

Rory blinked.

"Aggressive little seahorsie. You're going to hurt yourself."

There's really no reason for Bridge to randomly wander the hallways between his classes. Or to peek in the windows at the classrooms. But he is.

So he sees a room with a seahorse in a tank in it. And because he's curious, he opens the door (regardless of the fact that, hello, class in session) and peeks in.

Too bad he forgot about that magnetism thing.

John-the-seahorse zips out of the tank and sticks to Bridge's arm.

"Ahhh!" he flails.

John is out of the tank!

BLESSED FREEDOM!

Until he smacks into someone's arm and stays there.

FREEDOM SUCKS!

"Oh my god, get it off, get it off!" Bridge flails more.

"It's John!" Rory exclaimed, running over with the bowl. "Stick your arm in here so he can breathe!"

Rita spared a glance, and went back to her paper, ignoring the spectacle.

John the Seahorse needs water, dude!

He tries to telepathically tell Bridge this. Instead, he just spits up water on Bridge's arm.

Bridge sticks his arm back in the water. And then remembers that he can make things unstick if he thinks about it. So he unsticks John and then pulls his arm out of the water.

"That's John, seriously?" Bridge asks, trying to continue thinking unsticky thoughts. It's not working so well, so John the seahorse might find himself pressed up against the glass of the tank or something.

"Yeah, if you stay long enough, you might see him change back," Rory sighed. "He was being backtalky again."

John is sticking to the sides of the bowl. From this vantage point, Bridge really is kinda cute...

Rory shook the bowl a little to free him.

John is thankful to Rory and wonders if she thinks Bridge is cute too.

If Rory knew he was wondering that, she would ask if he'd not heard Jaye's helpful radio announcement.

John swims quickly around the bowl, trying to get his exercise.

Then he swims to the surface and looks longigly at Bridge and Rory...or Brory as John the Seahorse shall now call them.
