Defending Yourself Against Magic | Tuesday, 4th period

The students this week would find themselves back in the Danger Shop scriptorium, with a wide open space on one end and the desks pointed at it.

"Last week we went over finding magical objects," Bob began. "With any luck, that'll give you a bit of grounding in what magic feels like. But magic's not always so straightforward. Magic is will, remember. It works very well at affecting will."

He nodded to Elsa. "Put it up here, please." He waved at the room, and it obligingly added a table at the front of the scriptorium, along with a completely anachronistic and scantily clad magician's assistant.

What?

Elsa was side-eyeing that assistant while she went up to the front of the room, Bob. Just for the record. She took her role as TA seriously, though, and didn't mention it as she brought a little box, about eight inches wide, along with her. She'd been giving it a curious look up until she noticed Bob's little Danger Shop addition, mostly because of the tight wrapping and the writing on it, boldly stating, 'DO NOT OPEN UNLESS YOUR NAME IS BOB'.

As she set it down on the table, she couldn't help but wonder what might have happened if there had been a 'Bob' at the Portalocity office. Other thoughts she didn't share with the room before she gave the assistant one last strange look and went back to her desk.

There hadn't been, though, had there? To be honest, Bob wasn't entirely certain, either, though given the nature of the thing, if they'd opened it, they'd deserve what they got.

For now, he beamed at the assistant, who unwrapped the box and opened it up. From inside, she took seven small silk-wrapped bundles and set them down.

Bob nodded at them and dismissed the assistant, who disappeared in a puff of smoke that had more glitter than he had programmed, he was sure of it. He then turned back to the students. "Inside these are small crystal spheres." He held out his hand and created an illusion of one, just a couple inches wide. "They all have a bit of magic in them; they'll glow when you touch them. One of them does a bit more; it's going to try to influence whoever holds it. Your job is to find out who it is. Unless you are who it is, in which case your job is to keep anyone from finding out. The sphere will be influencing you to tell everyone where it is, so you'll have to fight it."

He eyed them all seriously. "This is a party game. A bit of magical hide-and-seek and twenty questions. Harmless fun. But make no mistake, this sort of magic can be very dangerous, and it's not to be played with unless you know what you're doing. I trust the man who made these, and I'm telling you that you can, too. If you have any qualms, then sit this out if you must. But believe me when I say that knowing this sort of thing can and has saved lives. Both fighting influence and discovering it."

He crossed his arms and nodded toward the bundles. "Everybody who's playing, take one. Then stand up here and...hang out. Talk. Do whatever you like. Just try and find the right sphere. Oh, and did I mention it moves? Once you find it, it'll go to someone else. If you don't find it, it'll switch at random. Any questions?"

Isabelle was going to sit this one out. She seemed more present than last week, but also wearier. Maybe even a little thinner, if anyone was paying that much attention.

In any case, she did not feel up for playing games.

Isabelle looked up, and shook her head.

"No." What a super wordy answer, Iz. "I'm learning by observing."
seveninchmotto: ([neu] Huh?)

Well, he was certainly helping by distracting her a second. One of Isabelle's eyebrows quirked up at that statement.

"Excuse me?"
seveninchmotto: ([neu] Lost for words.)

Isabelle squared her shoulders, and crossed her arms loosely over her chest. "Well, I have no interest in being anyone's entertainment ––" Because sure, that was the only reason not to take a swing at one of your teachers. "–– so, no thank you."
