The Danger Class was made up as a small, intimate, black box style theater. Eliot and Parker stood center stage, waiting for the students to file in.

Were they breaking into the ticket booth? Maybe pulling wallets from simulated audience members? Surely they were going to be asked to do something vaguely nefarious.

"Today we thought we'd give you guys a bit of a break," Eliot said. "Y'all been workin' pretty hard in here, so we're going to keep it simple and just do some basic improv."

“Partner up, pick someone, and then come up with a scenario.” Parker bounced on her toes. “The main goal is to keep going, no matter how complicated it gets. And not to start laughing, even if you want to. Like, Eliot is a fashion designer, and I’m a model. Or, you’ve just met someone through one of those dating sites, and you can’t let them know that you’re really a spy.” She grinned. “Improv and you get snacks!”

"We're -- we're not demonstrating," Eliot said. "Parker was just sayin' that as an example. You get stumped for ideas, ask her. She's got a million of 'em." Or ask Eliot. He could help with that, too. "We've got sandwiches when you're done. Fresh turkey, homemade aioli mayo, a little somethin' for any vegetarians. . . . They're very good sandwiches."

“Eliot once killed a guy over a sandwich,” Parker pointed out. Then considered. “And a different guy with an appetizer.” Food-related food for thought!

Eliot opened his mouth to rebut, then closed it again with a shrug. He didn't want to get into the habit of lying to the kids. "Get paired off and get started. Let's see what you guys got."

If you’re unclear on the concept

Pick a partner, pick a scenario, and see if you can stump your partner. Remember the basic rule of improv: no saying "no!"

Flick still felt pretty terrible but he was willing to give this a go. He'd taken a few painkillers and the ache in his stomach wasn't as bad so maybe he'd get through it okay before going to pick up Isabelle.

Kathy looked around for a partner, trying to come up with ideas for what she could improve.

And eyed those sandwiches. They looked really good.

They probably won't kill you over food.

Eliot was over here working out how to calmly explain to a potentially freaked out student that he wasn't a murderer.

You know, any more.

Thanks for that, Parker.

"Easy class day," Parker observed. "Next week should be something about beating people up. Or just getting away from them creatively."

"Could work," Eliot said. "Coupla students seem like they'd be interested in learning how to fight."

"We could tell them to fight each other?" Parker sounded unsure of that, really. Was this another one of the stupid rules? Or could they do that because they were teachers?

Eliot frowned. "Would the safeties protect 'em from punchin' each other?"

"Maybe?" Parker had no idea. She scowled. "We need Hardison to tell us."

"No we don't." Yes they did. "We could do it like the lasers. Give 'em a couple levels of thugs to choose from. We wouldn't even have to program the things to talk." So no accents this time. Which was a plus.

"You mean like Hardison's World of Warcraft game? Do they get costumes? Do they get to yell FOR THE HORDE?"

"No." Yeah, probably. "Do they do that thing in that game where they take turns attackin' each other?" Because how dumb was that?

"I think so." They all tended to melt together for her. Except for the one where you could make the little people set themselves on fire. That was hilarious. "We could speed them up! Slooooow them down. SPEED THEM UP. SLoooooooooooo.. them... dooooooown."

"What?" Eliot scowled at her. "Why?"

Anyone else would lie about something like 'so they can learn that speed conquers all' or 'so they can better observe the way someone is fighting them.'

"Because I think it would be cool."

"Real opponents ain't gonna speed up and slow down randomly."

Well, not outside of Fandom, anyway.

Parker grumbled. "I still think it would be cool.... we can have them level up, and earn points, and then for the last," she grinned, "they can fight CHEF ELIOT."

Yeah, tell her that's not cool!

"Chef Eliot would murder 'em with an appetizer," Eliot pointed out. "Though there are a lot of good weapons in a kitchen."

"We could make them improvise weapons through a house! And if they want help, I can show them where the brachial artery is!" And how you can pierce it with a fork!

"No arteries!" That was just what they needed, the kids going back to the dorms and trying out new skills and making each other bleed out. "You can take someone out perfectly well without makin' 'em bleed to death."

Parker was nibbling on her sandwich, and wondering if this was how Sophie felt sometimes, encouraging her students.

Of course, hers and Eliot's were better. And smarter. And could jump off buildings.
