Creative Problem Solving, Tuesday, period 3

Class met in the Danger Shop, where Eliot had spent the entire night before attempting to learn to program. It may have involved phone calls to Hardison. And teasing him by pretending to not know what a "holodeck" was.

The result was the class meeting up on what looked like the roof of a 15 story building on a bright, cool day. The wind came from the south in short bursts, just hard enough to mess up your hair.

If you think that detail didn't have Eliot scowling and wishing he had a hair tie, think again.

Parker by comparison had her hair tucked up in a little leather beret. Some people knew how to prep.

“Okay! Welcome to Creative Problem Solving!” She beamed at the students. “I guess they usually make you introduce yourselves here, but that’s boring. So, what you have to do is, attach this safety line to your harness--” Both were held up in explanation. “Shout your name, then jump!” She paused. “Really, even if you mess it up, this place won’t let you die.”

So reassuring.

Eliot knew how to prep, dammit. He just really wasn't usually the one on the roof of the tower. Hell, he hadn't even let Parker get him into a harness in the last five years of working with her.

"You won't get injured, either," he said, arms folded over his chest as he tried to pretend his hair wasn't blowing into his face. "If you really, really can't handle jumping off a building --" you're in the wrong class "-- you can find some other way down. There's a window washing platform and stairs. The stairs are locked and the platform is two floors down." He smiled a little wolfishly. "So you'll have to get creative."

“You can work together! You can work alone! You can use your bodies!... not like that,” Parker added, making a vague gesture with her hands. Don’t ask. “Or tools. Or your brains. Or someone else’s tools or brains!” She grinned. “Anything counts as long as you wind up on the ground!” She paused and added thoughtfully, “And there might be evil security guards in the stairwell.”

Eliot frowned. "Parker, I didn't program any security guards." Evil or otherwise.

“Yeah, I know, how could you forget those?” Pfftt. “I put them in when I saw you forgot them.”

Eliot closed his eyes for a moment and shook his head. He wasn't really looking forward to seeing what Parker thought 'evil security guards' should be like. "I'll stay up here to help out anyone who gets stuck." Or needs to be rescued from security guards. "Parker'll meet you downstairs with a treat." He was missing something. Oh, right: "I'm Eliot, by the way. That's Parker. We're teachers. Now get going."

Edward was only briefly dubious about it. He'd climbed up and down his fair share, but this was a bit much... on the other hand, his teachers said it was safe, and what better way to learn, no?

So that kid taking off at a dead run within moments of getting those instructions and the line on?

"Edward Kenway!"

... and then he leaped off the roof.

Oh. Oh. Oh, this was most certainly worth it. (He half-expected there to be a haystack when he landed.)

Flick thought about taking the stairs or something but, in the end, that just seemed like too much work. He got himself geared up and then took a running leap off the roof.

He almost forgot to say his name but managed after a second. "Flick!"

Short and sweet, that was.

Rapunzel...really wished for a hair tie right about now, yeah. You thought you had it bad, Eliot?

But hey, she knew how to get off the roof no problem, seriously. If there was one thing she wasn't afraid of? It was heights.

"I'm Rapunzel!" she announced, after getting harnessed up. And with a flourish, she grabbed the last few feet of her hair, tossed the rest down to the washing platform, and jumped down to it. There, she knotted her hair through the scaffolding, and rappelled down the rest of the way.

Her, "Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" of excitement could probably be heard all the way at the top, honestly.

"We should definitely keep that one," Parker said into her comms to Eliot.

To Rapunzel, when she got down, she said, "Awesome use of hair, seriously."

"Muahahaahahah!"

Parker, you were supposed to be on the side of Good.

"Thanks!" Rapunzel enthused, a little breathless with the excitement. "I mean, I've got so much of it, I should really use it for stuff, you know?"

Ooh, and there was cake, too? Best day ever.

"Definitely," Parker agreed. "See, THAT is creative thinking, people! Use what you've got!... want some red velvet cake?"

Yeah, that jump looked terrifying and Amy was prepared to at least try to avoid it.

"Does anyone know how to pick locks?"

If that failed, well, she'd just had to get harnessed up. It was worth a shot.

"And that doesn't defeat the purpose of your assignment?" Amy wondered, although she was totally ready to take him up on that.

"That's not ominous at all," Amy grumped.

It wouldn't be Fandom if it didn't scare you a little!

"I'll let you know if I need the help," she promised.

Vider raised her hand. "I'm open to barter."

"I'm interested," Amy said. "Barter for what?"

Vider shrugged. "I'm flexible. What are you willing to give me in exchange for picking the lock?"

Hmm. "I can offer you my unused harness?" Amy offered. "Or, uh." She looked down for anything she had on her that might work as a bargaining chip. "This hair tie? It's windy up here."

This was probably the best first class ever. Kathy was bouncing a little in place while she waited for her turn, a big smile on her face.

When it was her turn to jump, she did a handspring to get to the edge, paused to yell, "Kathy Li!" while holding herself up by a single hand and then pushed herself off.

"Wheeee!"

On the one hand, pfft, safety lines. On the other, fifteen stories was quite a bit further than the jumps berserk bands typically made from helicopters (which Vider hadn't even learned how to do yet, herself). So she did, in fact, attach the safety line before yelling, "Vider Bearskin!" and flinging herself over the edge.

Honestly, even if this wasn't the Danger Shop, Sia had Force powers that she could use to slow her descent, and also this wasn't nearly the weirdest thing she ever had to do.

She wasn't going to shout her name, though, instead saying, "Marasiah Fel," before stepping off the roof.

Minako pulled out her red ribbon, letting her hair fall down around her before pulling all of it back, not just the front. She was no Rapunzel, but the last thing she needed was it getting caught in the harness.

"Minako Aino!" she announced, giving a salute before tossing herself off the roof with a shout. Oh. My. God. SO COOL.

Oh, this was practically like flying! Kaylin quickly attached the harness, took a run at the roof and jumped off.

"KAYLIN NEYA!"
