The first class was being held in a regular classroom today, which might become a rarity here. And at the front was Kitty, half sitting on her desk.

"Hey, everybody, and welcome to Adulting 101," she greeted them. "For those of you who haven't had me yet, I'm Kitty Pryde, I don't really care what you call me as long as it's not something rude, and I'm going to hopefully teach you a little about how to survive in the adult world. So, I went to a school a lot like this when I was your age, and when I left I went off to college and figured everything would be easy, and then it started hitting that I needed to find a place to live and I was going to have to find a job so I could buy these bills I didn't realize would be so high and there are all these stupid little things you have to handle when you're on your own that you didn't really think would be an issue. So I'm going to do my best to help you guys learn and navigate that sort of stuff so you'll know how to do it when the time comes.

"It's the first week, so we're going to get to introductions before you're all sick of them. I want to know your name, year, and when and where you're from. I'm working from a present day Earth perspective, and if I need to adjust lesson plans, it's easier to do if I know now. Let's start with you there."

"Okay, with that out of the way," Kitty said when they'd wrapped up introductions, grabbing something to write on the board with. "I want to hear from you guys. What are some things you think you're going to need to know when you're handling all your own stuff? These can be little things or big things, just whatever you can come up with."

And as an FYI when she wrote all these on the board, her handwriting is kinda perfect. You're welcome.

"Probably how to handle money," Flick chimed in. "So you don't go broke and end up living in a bus station."

"That's probably the biggest one," Kitty said, writing it on the board. "Please don't live in a bus station."

"Been there, done that," Flick said, making a face. "I'd rather not do that again. I'll upgrade to airport terminal."

"How about how to find a job?" Raven had never worked a 'real job' a day in her life -- and back home, no one assumed she would ever have to. She had no idea where you would even begin.

Kitty wrote that one down, too. "That's the other big one, which goes hand in hand with the handling money thing. They may suck sometimes, but you gotta do it."

Raven's comment reminded Hanna of something that she'd been trying to cope with over the last week. "I do not know what kind of job I want. Or if I want further schooling." Her brow wrinkled. "I was trained for one thing, but I... don't think I want to do that, for the rest of my life."

Not that she'd be slacking on it. But. She had no idea who she could soldier or spy for, who wouldn't be a bad choice.

"That's fine," Kitty told her. "There aren't many sophomores who do know what they want to do. It's something we'll definitely touch on, but you've got plenty of time to figure that stuff out."

"I agree," Eleanor nodded. "And I wasn't so much trained as -- expected to be something that I've refused, so -- I'm not sure what that leaves. I don't even know what's out there, or how to find out what I'm interested in."

Hanna sneaked a look over at Eleanor, glad that someone else understood. "I don't dislike what my father trained me for. And I am good at it, but..." She frowned. "I would be working with ruthless people," she said slowly. "And the main thing he trained me for is accomplished. I want to try something else now." Her voice had become very small at the end.
