Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were chairs and tables set up all across the lawn; some were by the bonfire, for the people who wanted to be warm and central to everything else at the picnic, and some were set farther away from the action, for the people who wanted more peace and quiet.

There was no escaping the glitter though. Sorry, but not really.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

... Something here smelled familiar. But yet also at the same time not quite. That was more than enough to draw Ezra to investigate.

And when that led him in front of a girl as cute as this? He certainly didn't mind. "Hello," he said. "My name's Ezra, what's yours?"

"Shiny and new," Ezra confirmed, and flicked a piece of glitter off his lapel. Because the shiny was literal, see? "I guess that makes you an old student, right?"

"Oldish. I've been here since last summer," Kira said. "What brought you to the school? If you don't mind me asking."

"A car." He knew that was a terrible joke; he said it in a way that suggested as much. He shrugged and smiled. "It was thought a change of scenery would be good for me for a while, and I happily happened to agree, so here I am."

"This is usually a pretty big change for some people. Have you met your big sibling yet?" she asked. "To, uh, find out more about where you've ended up."

"I have." And he smiled again. Actually, no. He smirked. "This place is weird, huh?"

He seemed almost vaguely excited at the prospect. He didn't like being bored, it made him restless.

Kira gave a sigh of relief that he didn't seem worried about Fandom not being normal. "This place is super weird, but usually in a good way," she said. "Do you--I mean, are there weird things where you come from, or is this all new to you?"

"What's weird, really?" Ezra asked with an easy, elegant little shrug of his shoulders. "Depends on what you think is normal, right? But yes, I've seen some weird things before. But I have to admit, the... time thing my new family member was talking about is new."

"Ooh, like people not being from now? You get used to seeing people dressed old ways, and sometimes it's fun to be the one to explain new things, like microwaves and pizza delivery," Kira said. "Although, sometimes you have to explain things like reality TV and that's hard to do without sounding dumb."

"I would pretend reality TV didn't exist," Ezra noted, sagely, nodding. "Let that be someone else's problem. Or I might just make something outrageous up for the hell of it."

And see how long it took for the other party to catch up!

"Which brings me to an important question... What is there around here to do? For fun, obviously."

"Well, the island's not exactly a busy place. There's about every different kind of food you can think of, and the school has the typical dances and stuff. Oh, and there's a bar in town called Caritas that doesn't card anyone." He looked like the type of person who might be into that kind of thing. "I think people go across the causeway a lot to hang out in normal civilization too. It's not really monitored or anything."
