Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

There were chairs and tables set up all across the lawn; some were by the bonfire, for the people who wanted to be warm and central to everything else at the picnic, and some were set farther away from the action, for the people who wanted more peace and quiet.

There was no escaping the glitter though. Sorry, but not really.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Aww, yay, a new person! And a new person who...okay, she didn't look familiar, exactly, but her clothes kind of did. Hmm.

"It's all mine," Rapunzel said, straightening up a little with a small smile. "And it's all real, too. It's okay, you're not the first one to ask."

Not that the girl had said anything, but Rapunzel was pretty used to people feeling bad for asking, for whatever reason.

"Are you new, today?"

"It's so pretty," Anna breathed. She hadn't realized yet that it might possibly have been rude, to ask. Because she was struck by just the sheer awe-inspiring majesty of it. "Wait, isn't it heavy?"

Not only did the girl have exquisite hair, but she was actually dressed like a normal person, and not -- whatever all of the other people here seemed to be wearing. Which was nice! Just not, well, exactly ... what she was expecting, per se.

"Oh! Oh, I didn't introduce myself." The girl with the liquid gold hair was getting a curtsy. "Anna, of Arendelle."

"Arendelle?" Rapunzel perked up, forgetting her explanation about how her hair was heavy, but she was used to it. "You're from Arendelle? Do you know Elsa?"

Because of course everyone in the country knew each other, Rapunzel.

"She's my sister," Anna gushed, excitedly. "You know her? I mean, the her that's here? Because she's not my sister. My sister's back home. And her Anna is back home. But if they're almost the same person then they're a lot alike, they'd have to be. But I haven't -- seen her yet."

She fidgeted, a touch awkwardly. "It's complicated," she said, hoping she hadn't just made one of Elsa's friends think badly of her. "We'll -- we're going to talk later."

They were, because she would hunt Elsa down if she had to to make that happen. But she was trying this thing called 'patience' right now.

Wow, that was even more talking than Rapunzel usually did, but that was kind of great?

"I know the her that's here!" Rapunzel assured her, nodding eagerly. She worried her lower lip a little, because things sounded -- complicated, yes, perfect word. But it wasn't really her business, but she also didn't want to pry, but Anna seemed really nice and if Elsa had her reasons for being standoffish it...frankly, kind of just sounded like Elsa. "Um, and the her that's here is...private?" she offered. "I don't know if that's how she is at home, but Elsa's, um. Reserved."

A pause, and then: "And I'm Rapunzel!" in a rush, because oh gosh, how rude. "Of...Corona," she added, with a shy little smile. Yay, neighbors kinda!

"Reserved," Anna said quickly, feeling a rush of relief swill through her. "That's exactly it." Reserved sounded stately, and busy, not anything bad. Just someone who edged back a little in front of others. "Plus she's kind of bad with germs. Or people. Maybe both."

She hadn't decided yet if it was some kind of clean freak status or social anxiety, but those were her two best guesses right now.

"Corona?" she added, reached out to clasp the other girl's forearms. "Oh! I know where that is!"

Nobody all day had mentioned a place she knew. This was wonderful news.

"You have that light thing every year! The candles? I've never seen it but I've heard it's beautiful."

"Candles?" Rapunzel's eyes went huge. "It's candles? I've always wondered what it was. You mean -- you mean the thing in the summer, right? With the -- with the floating lights?"

This was clearly really, really important to Rapunzel -- sorry, Anna, she was going to freak out a little over this.

Anna bit her lip uncertainly. "I don't know for sure that it's candles," she admitted. "I -- I never went, but Mother mentioned it once. She -- she called it candles, but I don't know if she ever went, either. Maybe she did? Maybe she knew someone who had, or -- or maybe she just thought it was candles, from what other people said about it."

She gave the other girl a wistful smile. "I'm sorry. I wish I knew for certain. I -- I'd tell you, if I did."

"No, no, it's okay," Rapunzel rushed to assure her, grinning beatifically at even that much information. "It's okay. I've -- I've never seen them in person? But those lights always happen, um, on my birthday, actually. And I've always wondered what they were, but I was never allowed to go, and...and it's just good to have some idea of what they are, at all. Mother told me they were stars, but I knew that was wrong."

She shook her head, sighing happily. "They're candles. Floating candles. That's amazing." And then she shot a look at Anna, guiltily, and added, "Sorry, you probably don't care about the floating candles so much, huh? Are you like, completely freaked out by this place yet? We're not all bad, I promise. Most of us are pretty nice and not crazy at all, no matter what anyone's told you."
