Advanced Criminal Justice, Class 15, Period 1, 02.28.06

[OOC: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Class Info Post.]

The TIck was standing at the front of the class as usual when his students walked in. Lockheed was resting on his normal shelf.

"Hello, class! First off, a big thank you to Rory for taking care of class on Thursday and helping me out in regards to my fish on Friday."

"Today, we'll be talking about competence and intent. If you want to do Wrong very badly for whatever reason and you're just miserable at it, does it actually count as doing Wrong? For example, this past Saturday, a fleet of alien goldfish attacked the school in order to get revenge for my late fish's death, even though she died a natural death. Well, technically, they only attacked Rory in hopes of getting to me, but an attack on even one student from an outside force basically amounts to an attack on the school."

"Anyway, these fish floated around in these teeny little bubbles that popped if they touched anything. I defeated the attack force by standing there and letting the fish hit me. It was terrible strategy on their part. I ended up throwing all of them into an aquarium that now sits in the lobby."

"So, my question to you is this: considering that the fishie fleet really wanted to kill both Rory and myself, does the fact that they were woefully unprepared for the most minor of skirmishes mean we should be lenient towards them with their punishment? Again, with a bunch of fish, the best punishment seemed to be putting them on display in the dorm lobby where they can make people smile even though they're noisy little guys. Just in terms of general crime, I mean. And can you think of any other crimes where the execution is so poor where you might let the criminal slide despite the intent? Get creative!

"This week's metaphor is the sport of your choice. And the extra credit is to name one of the new fish in the dorm lobby."

Janet snickered. "No one's ever tried that I know of," she whispered.

"So... are you guys still angry with me?" Marty whispered. "Because I'd like to stay in my own room without being afraid I'll wake up with some kind of probe stuck someplace where I don't want it stuck."

"Yes, I'm still angry with you," whispered Janet. "But I'm not going to kick you out of your own room. Or take sordid revenge on you." She rolled her eyes at him. "Besides, I'm not an alien!"

Janet put her pen down--or at least she tried to. It kind of stuck to her hand.

OOC: ZOMG, lost the internet for, like, three hours. *clings to internet*

"Okay. I was just worried about something Jack mentioned about needles. And did someone at one point throw my clothes off the top of the dorm? I seem to remember something about that."

[OOC: NP. I'll be in and out all day.]

"Jack had better watch out if he ever drags his sorry ass into the room again," said Janet. "I'll show him needles. What, did you think I was going to perform medical experiments on you in your sleep? I'm one of the good guys here." She kept whispering. "And I think someone did something like that, but I'm not sure who." She didn't bat an eyelash on the lie.

Then she tried to put her pen down again. It still stuck to her hand. She glared at it.

"Well I wasn't sure how mad you were. I'm still a little fuzzy on what happened after Parker tackled me the other week."

Marty looked at the pen stuck to Janet's hand. "Problem?"

"I'm furious," said Janet. "But it's your room too. And you said you were having memory problems. Please tell me you went to the clinic like you promised me you would."

"I think so," she said. She opened her fingers and tried shaking her hand around. The pen still stuck to her hand. "This is really not normal."

"Yes, *Mom* I did have myself checked out. I had a CT done and even had Bridge wiggle his fingers at me," Marty said as he watched Janet shake her hand.

"Did you forget to wash your hands or something?"

"Do not call me that," said Janet harshly. "I mean it. Never again."

She rolled her eyes. "Yes, of course I forgot to wash my hands. Who cares about pesky little things like germ transmission?"

"Sorry," Marty said honestly. "I forgot for a second."

"Uh-huh," said Janet. Her face was blank.
