Public Service - On the Edge, Monday, Period 2

"Well," Reno said, frowning and crossing his arms as the portal opened behind him on the Causeway. "That sucks, don't it? Put in all this time an' friggin' hard work, and then someone's come in and ripped it apart? So, what we're gonna do before we get back to work today is have ourselves a sit-down in the Seventh Heaven, and we're gonna talk about what you guys did last week and what we're gonna do goin' forward."

A beat.

"And then I got a proposal to go with it. So, let's get goin', hm?"

And through the portal he went, waving them along behind him into the back room of Tifa's bar, where there were plenty of seats. And Tifa and Cait Sith were already waiting for them, each wearing a little smile. Well. Tifa was wearing a little smile. Cait Sith's was usually pretty broad anyway.

"So," Reno said, smirking a little. "Last week sucked. Tell me about it. And then I'll tell you what these two came up with."

Like you're starting class in the back room of a bar.

Last week, showing up to find that your work sites had been plundered kind of sucked. A lot. So, fill Reno in on what you guys talked about. Vent if you need to. Rage if you need to. He gets it.

"So, Tifa and Cait Sith have been busy since last week," he shared. "Askin' around, lookin' just flat-out friggin' disappointed in everyone, and while they didn't manage to recover most of what was stolen, they got somethin', I think, was almost better. See, it doesn't hurt to have friends who… have friends, yo."

Okay, that kind of ran out of steam, there.

"Should we just show them?" Tifa was clearly trying not to laugh. "Or were you planning on spending the rest of the day talking to them about friendship?"

"Shaddap," Reno muttered, but he stood and waved the students through the door. Tifa followed along behind him, and Cait Sith took up the rear, merrily babbling on about his surprise as they walked.

What they saw when they got to the site nearest to the ruins? A pile of recovered building materials, and even a few new ones, which were being carried in by plainclothes locals who were all chatting amiably amongst themselves. Off to the side, there were a couple of people in uniform, weapons away and simply keeping a quiet eye on the proceedings, occasionally even stepping in themselves to help move something heavy.

"See, some people were happy about what you guys were tryin' to accomplish in Edge," Reno shared as they approached the site, giving a smile and an actually friendly nod to one of the people working there who had taken to staring in shock at the Turk. The man looked at him warily for a moment, and then nodded back and got back to work. It helped that he had Tifa and Caith Sith with him, probably. "And they didn't like what went down that week we were on break. So a few of 'em got together, did some lookin' around of their own, and managed to dig up some of this old shit. A few more donated from their own building supplies, yo. Everyone here wants to chip in and help, and Cait Sith brought some of his friends from the WRO to keep an eye on the place while the worksites are quiet. We still got a lot to do ourselves, and there are some parts that they couldn't recover that we're gonna have to replace ourselves - I got pocket money for that, easy - so we ain't all off the hook yet."

He grinned.

"The worksite in the Square looks pretty much the same way," he shared. "So. You wanna pick one and get to it? We can't leave all the fun stuff up to the locals to do, yo."

React, and then get to work! Tifa will be staying here, by the ruins, and Cait Sith will be heading back to the Square. Reno will be making his rounds between the two sites, just in case anybody needs him.

Once they tag in!

There's probably some moral here about community spirit when times go bad, but like hell Reno's that eloquent. He is here to talk to if you have anything to say, though.

Wanna go to bed. Can't go to bed. Important potential client in the studio in an hour and I gotta be there so that we look like we actually do work or something. But I wanna go to bed. BLEEEEEH.

Oh! And many thanks to Killaurey for picking up last class for me so I could get my butt in gear with ALL THE WORKING EVER AAAAH. You rock, bb. <3

Karina shrugged her shoulders. "It was a nasty surprise," she said, casually leaving out that it had been a surprise she'd dealt with first before the rest of the class had seen it. "But we did what we could to clean up the mess and tried to figure out what we could do to keep it from happening again."

A beat.

"And, okay, there was some bitching."

He'd probably expected that and more.

Karina was not a little teary-eyed at the power of friendship and what had been accomplished by the locals at all, shut up.

Okay, she totally was, but like hell was she going to admit it.

Karina picked the ruins site, again, since that had been the worst off the last time. She kept busy, wondering if she just never mentioned anything to Reno about the fact that she'd ignored his rules last week that she'd get away with it.

It was probably worth a shot, right?

"I skipped last week," Barry said honestly. "Which is probably good because I would have lost my shit."

Aww. People doing good.

Okay. Moment's over. Barry started rummaging through the equipment to see what he could do with it.

"I was mad," Anders said. "We put in so much work and it got destroyed. Probably whoever did it sold the parts for alcohol or weapons. And at the same time, I feel like we were naive not to see this might happen."

Kathy was blinking rapidly, trying to keep her eyes clear, and beaming at the new (and new/old) equipment.

Kathy was absolutely teary-eyed looking at what had been done in their absence. She was only too happy to get in there and assist the people who were helping them.
