Technology and You- Monday- 1st period

Today the class was in the Danger Shop again, and the place looked kind of like a gaming center, set up with TVs and several kinds of consoles. There were also arcade games, including DDR. Just to give some variety.

"Last week we figured out the television. Today we're moving on to some more fun stuff. Which means video games," Kitty greeted them. "If you played any of the games we downloaded a couple weeks ago on your phones, or took the class on this last year, you might a basic idea how some games work. There's a large variety. Some are epic games where you team up with other people and go on missions, some you play alone or with another person and have one simple goal, like saving a princess from a castle, some are super simple and all you're really worried about is the high score. There are even games focused on dancing or fitness. Some games you might like, some games you won't, or maybe you won't like them at all, but it's worth a try, right?

"So I'm going to show you the basics of how to work the controls, and then you can pop around and try some things out, okay?"

Nathan wasn't going to be able to play for long because the technology was already causing a loud, piercing buzz in his head but he wanted to at least try.

Even if his first try had him walking right off a ledge and to his death.

After the weekend she'd had, Celia wasn't much in the mood to talk to anyone (and was maybe specifically avoiding certain people in the class, actually.) She picked a system at random, plucking up a controller and settling into a seat to press buttons at random.

If she set her mind to figuring out how this thing worked, then that was less time spent thinking about her disaster of a weekend -- even if she was still glowing with pride over how she'd finally stood up to her father last night.

Ichabod wasn't sure class was the best way to talk about the weekend, but he wanted to say something, so he approached Celia. "Would you like to find a game to play together?" he asked.

Celia let the controller rest in her lap (she barely understood what she was doing who it, anyway) and glanced over at him hesitantly. "Are you allowed to be talking to me?" she asked softly.

She'd known his father wasn't going to approve of her, of course, but actually having her suspicions become reality had left her a little more bruised than she would like to admit.

"My father isn't here, and I won't obey him," Ichabod said firmly. It was the first time he hadn't listened to his father in a serious matter, but somehow it wasn't even a difficult choice to make.

"Are you allowed to talk to me? he added quietly.

"Yes," Celia said firmly, and quite a bit more warmly. "Yes, I am."

Her father hadn't said whether she was allowed one way or the other, but she wasn't going to share his opinions on her ending up like her mother with Ichabod. It was both painful to think of her mother, and embarrassing to suggest in the first place, so she would just...not mention it. For now.

"I take it my illusions worked?" she added, smiling a little and shifting her skirts so he could sit with her. "Considering you're still here...."

She'd worried. She had confidence in her abilities, but she worried.

"They did. My father thought nothing strange of this place. Except possibly the flamingos." Ichabod gave her a warm smile, and nudged a hand against her arm, for no reason at all.

"I thought about replacing them with swans or something," Celia admitted, "but they're rather fun, and it was one less thing to keep track of." She'd slept very well last night, finally able to stop concentrating on keeping mental track of one person's perception of cell phones and electricity and such.

"Papa wanted me to go back with him," she admitted quietly, a little more serious as she handed him the other controller. Not that she still really understood what to do with them, but maybe Ichabod would have better aptitude for this sort of thing.

"But you didn't." Ichabod looked at her, then the controller got his attention. "How on earth do you use these things?"

"I have no idea." She'd been paying attention when Kitty had explained, but that didn't mean she really understood an A button from a Y button, still. "And no, I didn't. And I'm sorry if I got you in trouble," she added, glancing over a little doubtfully. "By speaking the way I did."

It was really the only thing she'd regret about that whole thing, if she had somehow made Ichabod suffer for her words.

"I think we're supposed to hold them like this, at least." She had the controller in her hands, but was still looking deeply confused by it.

Edward wound up finding some horrible Steam game that happened to feature a boat on the cover. Seemed promising.

Of course, then it started and he wound up spending the entire time alternating between looking at the floor or looking at the ceiling. What? What was this?

As it turned out Cosette was terrible at anything that wanted her to move a character around a 3-D plane (and a bit put out at herself for being terrible at it), but it wasn't something she found she enjoyed that much.

She did enjoy match-3 games, though, so good luck getting her away from that Columns arcade cabinet once she got her hands on it.

Jalian...wasn't entirely sure about this. Games growing up had mostly been gambling or fighting. And she'd given up on them at a pretty early age in favor of science. She sort of drifted around looking at them, trying to see if anything looked interesting.
