Student Council, Friday [Lunchtime]

Since it was the first meeting of the year, there was quite a bit of food out to welcome the new and old members of the Student Council. There was pizza, salads, sodas, and a variety of sweets, some of which even managed to not be pumpkin-flavored. It was a miracle, truly.

"Good afternoon, and thank you all for volunteering and coming," she said. "Since this is our first meeting, we have a few things to do today. First, we have to pick a president of the council from among our seniors - assuming any of you want the job - and then we have to put plans together for Parents Weekend. If you all didn't know, that's next weekend, so you might want to prepare yourselves for family visits if you haven't already."

Enjoy the food om nom nom, now I'm hungry.

Alana filled her plate with salad, which would have been a more impressive feat of healthy eating if she hadn't drowned it in bacon bits and dressing and then also taken a second plate of brownies and pumpkin muffins.

She leaned back and considered the seniors, curious who would make the best case for her vote.

Well, at least this place had food going for it. Always go for free pizza.

"Does anybody know why I'm here?" Gwen asked, because she still didn't know. "Anybody?"

"The office moose thought StuCo needed another cool person?" Alana asked, quirking an eyebrow Gwen's way. "Seriously, you didn't put your name in at the last minute? I kind of figured that was it."

"I didn't put my name in aaaanything," Gwen said, shaking her head. "And then all of a sudden the principal's saying my name and it's not because I'm in trouble."

"Freaky," Alana concluded. In other circumstances, she would have wondered if Gwen was lying so she wouldn't look like the type of dork who went out for StuCo. But given her audience was made up of exactly the kind of dork who went out for StuCo, it hardly seemed worth it.

"Are you going to stick with it? I would. There's food."

"I think I have to. Aunt May was so happy about it, and there was talk of how responsibility would be good for me, and I think she knew I was going to try and back out so now I can't."

You just never go against Aunt May. Never ever.

"I got a form with your name on it," Zoe said. "The handwriting wasn't very good, but I don't judge anyone based on that."

"But I didn't turn in a form," Gwen frowned. She'd say she didn't even look like a kid who signed up for things like Student Council, but Sparkle did it voluntarily so there went that. "Do you still have it?"

Zoe thought about that for a moment, and then sifted through the folder with all the important council papers in it. "Here it is," she said, offering it to Gwen.

Gwen looked at it, and frowned. "This looks like it was written by squirrels... Oh my god, did I get signed up for Student Council by squirrels?"

Yep. You did, Gwen.

It was only through many years of practice that Zoe managed to keep a straight face. "Well, you came to the meeting, so that means you're willing to help with the council, right?" she asked.

"Well, yeah-" Now that she'd been talked into it. "-but I mean, they actually think we should give rum to squirrels for charity."

Minako blinked. "Because you're awesome?" she suggested, tilting her head in thought. "I mean, I might be biased because blondes totally have more fun, but I'm pretty sure un-awesome people are not allowed here."

"I can go with that," Gwen decided. She was, after all, awesome.

Emma went straight for the pizza. Sure she'd just gotten out of Doctor Lecter's class, but she could always find room for more food.

Sparkle... was merrily ignoring the 'family visits' comment, in favor of stacking a plate full of pizza.

Because pizza was way more pleasant than that can of worms.

PUMPKIN MUFFINS.

Beyond that, Minako wasn't really paying super amounts of attention to anything. Her parents weren't going to come for Parent Weekend since she'd barely been gone a month from their perspective, so she figured Sparkle would volunteer her for stuff while she ate. Because he did that sort of thing.

Mara was here and poking dubiously at the pizza.

Sparkle cleared his throat as he stepped up to bat, so to speak.

"Hey, so, I know this is my first go-round on Student Council in the first place," he began, "but, you know, I've been a student here for a couple of years now. I want to think I know, like, the ins and the outs, and the sort of people who make up the student body. And beyond that, I've seen the scary shit that goes on around here, and I've got, like, these ideas, right? Like, little things that we might want to consider changing. I know I, for one, am not going to be huge about supporting the Homecoming Carnival, for example, and we might want to find something to replace that with that doesn't dredge up memories of half the people on the island dying and turning evil and trying to kill one another, that sort of thing."

He shrugged.

"I dunno. I'm not the most super-sensitive guy on the council, and my claim to fame here so far is that I haven't broken into the school to hide cherry bombs in the toilets, but I think I could do a good job at this. Either way, I'm here and I'll do my best."

... Which was weird for Sparkle to say, yeah. But like hell he was going to let his last year in the school go to waste. Even if he kind of hated the place.

Cecil applauded! That was a pretty good speech, after all, and plus it was Sparkle.

Like Scotland, there should be a good turnout for the voting.

Sparkle!

Gwen pretty much had to go with Sparkle. He'd seemed to really care about it and he'd always been nice to her, so that's really all she needed.

"For those of you who are new, we usually have a few things going on during the weekend for the families who are visiting. We'll have a meet and greet on Friday, some kind of get-together at the community center on Saturday, and a brunch on Sunday. If anyone has an idea for something fun we can organize on Saturday, now is the time to mention it."
