Cosette had gotten caught up in reading this morning, which was either the most appropriate or most ironic reason to be a few minutes late for her library shift. She certainly looked abashed about it, at least, as she hurried in still clutching the volume of Dumas (yesterday's Heroic Tales class had piqued her interest further) that was to blame.

The etiquette books gave a mild rustle of disapproval, but her profuse apologies seemed to be good enough for them, and they went back to flipping their pages judgmentally at the French history books.

When Cosette wasn't paying attention, anyway.
