Public Service - On the Edge, Monday, Period 2

"Yo, rookies!" Reno was in a pretty good mood today, yes. And why wouldn't he be? Sure, it was a long weekend and technically today was supposed to be a day off, but why in the world would that matter, right? Yep. A good mood. Labor day wasn't even a thing where he was from. "So, last week I had you guys pick a project to set out in Edge, and really, it was pretty much unanimous, you guys dug right down to it and picked pretty much the most obvious basic human need- water."

Reno's mood did not improve any as a cold rain of water dumped down over his head, leaving his hair plastered to his face and little ice cubes skittering across the classroom floor.

"I'm gonna burn the island to the ground one of these days," he ground out, before squaring his shoulders and pressing on. He was a Turk. He was gonna do the job. "Anyway, like I was sayin', looks like you guys want to find a way to set up filtration stations around Edge or somethin' like that, and I gotta say, I'm all for it. Even called up my old buddy Reeve-" They were not actually friends at all. "-with the WRO to make sure they'd be okay with it, and we have the all-clear to go forward, just so long as we can come up with a workable system, yo. We're on our own when it comes to supplies and funding, but hey, I figured that was pretty much how it was gonna be anyway."

He waved his hands at the students. Possibly because he was gesturing to them. Possibly because he was trying to flick some of the icewater off of his fingertips.

"So that's what we're gonna work on today. You more or less got the basics about Edge last week, yo. It's only a couple of miles across, but we'll probably still need a few stations set up around town to account for demand and distance. We've got no shortage of raw building materials in Midgar's ruins, so you can probably save a few bucks if we take 'em from there. Edge is located in the middle of a desert, so most of the water-" another cold splash, this one followed by a twitch of Reno's eyelid and a violent hiss between his teeth, "-is gonna be located underground. Probably in what used to be Midgar's sewers. Nasty place. Crawlin' with monsters, and they're only a little more pleasant than the poisons in the tunnels down there. An' that's what we got to work with, folks. Figurin' out what kinda system you're gonna build and how you're gonna make it happen are up to you, though I'm still here if you got any questions."

He looked upwards at the ceiling, narrowed his eyes at the lack of anything that could obviously be dumping water on him, and then added, "It was also brought to my attention that there might be students interested in putting in extra time volunteering in Edge, to work on this project or to spend extra time workin' with the locals or planting trees way out on the outskirts of the desert or whatever the hell makes you happy. I'm gonna stress now, Edge is dangerous as hell and I'd rather you guys not go there without havin' me along. That said, I've been chewin' on doin' optional runs out there once a week, maybe Wednesday evenings or whatever, to do little weekly projects. Soup kitchens or offerin' first aid assistance, teachin' people how to plant their own food if we can get some seeds an' soil out there, that sort of thing. If you're interested in taggin' along, you're even welcome to bring friends, the more the merrier, whatever, then let me know after class. In the meantime, you got one another, and there are computers with the internet if you need to research. Karina and Kathy, congrats, I'm tappin' you both in for Rookie duty this semester. It's mostly like a TA job, only I don't ask you to bring me coffee, yo."

Lucky girls.

George was still uncertain about this whole 'technology' thing and a few months back in Adrianglia hadn't helped his comfort level with it any. He was at a computer attempting research, but his muttering and one-finger-typing method might suggest it was not research that would be going anywhere fast.

He would also like not to get ice bucketed while at the computer, thank you. As much for his sake as for the machine. He'd had to change once already this morning as it was.

Four's fingers flew over the keyboard--for a guy from a dystopian society, he was really good with technology.
