Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Were you a veteran Fandom resident? Did you finish getting your brain broken by your sibling and/or buddy? Did you just want to sit down to recover from the shuttle ride? If so, then there were plenty of tables and chairs set up across the lawn just waiting to be filled!

[This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Nope, I've been here a year," Alana said. "Went pretty fast once I got used to it. And you mentioned the shuttle, so I'm going to take a wild guess you are new."

"Nope. I figured I'd be a more obvious new kid," Gwen admitted. "Maybe if I don't mention the shuttle again I can slip in unnoticed..."

"Just act offended if people say they don't remember you?" Alana suggested. "It could work. Act bored with whatever happens and you're most of the way there."

"That sounds easy. I'll have to practice for when people tell me about squirrels and rain of fish," Gwen considered. She was totally gonna do this.

Alana's eyebrows went up in admiration. "See, you already have the jaded thing down," she said. "Nice. If you can hear somebody say 'I was a parrot last week' and not be surprised, you'll totally fit in."

Gwen blinked.

"I was a what now?"

"Oh, right, that's another thing here," Alana said apologetically. "Sometimes you wake up and you aren't yourself. Like, you might be a totally different person, or yourself but a boy, or ... sometimes an animal. This one girl was a polar bear for weeks."

"Oh god. They shipped me to crazy town."

She actually sort of believed it, even if she didn't like hearing any of that. On the bright side, it wouldn't be the worst thing she ever turned into!

"Yep!" Alana chirped. (She was not one to argue with accurate statements.) "Bright side, the food in crazytown's pretty good."

"And everyone's just... cool with being in crazytown?" Gwen checked. "I haven't seen a single person running screaming, and..."

Alana shrugged. "Honestly, I think most people here are just happy not to be dealing with stuff at home," she said. "If you run screaming you're right back to that. So we stay. It's even kinda fun."

"I can't really argue that one," Gwen realized. The Parkers were great but Gwen did not have a lot of luck at home.

"Yeah, so ..." Alana shrugged, glancing away. She didn't want to ask for or offer specifics just yet. "So, where are you coming from?"

Not too far, she'd guess from Gwen's clothes and appearance, but she'd been wrong before.

"New York," Gwen said. "So this should be an adjustment."

Though Maryland was so far much less waterlogged.
