Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Were you a veteran Fandom resident? Did you finish getting your brain broken by your sibling and/or buddy? Did you just want to sit down to recover from the shuttle ride? If so, then there were plenty of tables and chairs set up across the lawn just waiting to be filled!

[This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Elsa was actually actively facepalming as she made her way over to Kathy. Kathy would understand. She would appreciate the facepalm once she was made aware.

"Kathy," and yes, Elsa was actually barely restraining a laugh. "Kathy, do you know what Barry did?"

SHE WOULD UNDERSTAND.

"Started twerking in front of the new kids," Kathy guessed. Oh lord, there were so many horrible options to choose from. "Started coughing up Twizzlers? Umm...grabbed you by the waist and declared 'I claim these hips in the name of Weendom!' at a teacher? Am I getting warm?"

"Startlingly warm," Elsa replied, pulling out her phone, the one Barry had just given her, not more than twenty minutes beforehand. "But nothing gremlin related, thank goodness. I'm pretty sure I would have to dedicate the rest of my life to learning how to light him on fire with the power of my brain if he got himself inoculated against gremlin bites again."

"Stick with what you know," Kathy said, deliberately vague for the squirrels' benefit. "I'll work on lighting him on fire. Maybe if I run fast enough, I can get enough friction going..."

Seriously, Barry. Never. Again.

"So, if it wasn't any of those, what did he do? Gave you a...phone?"

That didn't seem terrible. Was there porn on it or something?

Elsa nodded, but then immediately held up one finger as if to say, 'Behold.'

And then she pressed the button at the bottom of the phone until it beeped, and said into the receiver, "Call Barry."

Just listen, Kathy. Just listen for the ringtone.

Yep. That would be Baby Got Back coming his phone.

"Hello? Showing off your phone?" Barry teased.

"Barry." The voice coming through his earpiece was very likely not the voice he was expecting, but it sounded appropriately scandalized nevertheless. "Why. Why would you even. She helped save you and even sat on you and this is how to repay her."

Scandal and laughter.

"The only way it would be worse is if the picture you'd programmed in was of you in mid-twerk."

...If, say, you were looking for how to build on that ringtone. You're welcome.

"KATHY!"

Elsa usually saved that slightly scandalized and mostly amused tone of voice for Barry! Well done!

"Don't give him ideas!"

It was probably too late, wasn't it?

"I'm saving her photo on my phone for an animated gif of her shimmying," Barry said with a laugh. "I'll let you to discuss that behind my back."

"Yes," Kathy said, a mischievous smile blooming. "Why don't you let us go and I'll explain to Elsa what an animated gif is. Have a good picnic, Barry!"

WHO WAS PLOTTING SOMETHING? NOT KATHY! NEVER.

...She was totes the sneakiest.

Elsa wasn't entirely certain it was possible to compete with that much sneakiness. Kathy? A master of sneaky, truly.

"What a what is?"

... Her takeaway from this was that Kathy and Barry were both terrible, yes.

"An animated gif," Kathy said absently, poking at the internet. "It's basically a few seconds of a looping scene compressed into a gif format. The quality is usually lower, but it takes up much less room than other kinds of files, so you can have an animated image that uses the same amount of file space as, say, a really high quality .jpg or .png image."

Which cleared everything right up for Elsa right?

"Okay," she said a second later. "Now text him and make him call you."

This was going to be epic.

"Hmm. We may want to be closer so he can hear it, too."

Elsa... hadn't figured out texting yet. But that was okay. She could puzzle over that while moving closer to Barry, giving Kathy a baffled side-eye.

Yeah, she was going to just give up on figuring out what an animated gif was now, before Kathy could hurt her brain.

"Do I want to know what you did while you were poking at it?"

"I assigned him a ringtone," Kathy said as innocently as she could. "Since he picked out one for you, I thought it was only fair that you personalized yours for him."

"Okay, but it was you who personalized it," Elsa pointed out, and quietly delighted when the icon that she tapped actually led to a window where she could type in text and select Barry's name. "Just ask him to text me back?"

I found the text button!

Look, it was exciting.

And Kathy wants you to text me back.

He doubted Elsa would understand but if Kathy was around she could explain.

And if he knew about the ring tone the text would have been something completely different.

"Awwww," Kathy said, leaning over to look at the screen. "He sent you a flower. That's adorable. Barry's a romantic."

She made a mental note to tell him to buy Elsa real flowers, considering the past week, but that was something she could take up with him. Later.

"But, no, he needs to call you. So you can hear his ringtone." And then share it with him.

Elsa blinked, and then blushed a little, taking a moment to appreciate the flower, once she figured out what it was meant to be.

"Oh, right. I text, he calls. I... maybe got a little excited."

Learning how to find the texting option all on her own was sort of a big deal, okay?

That's cute! She says she gave you a ringtone too? She wants you to call so I can hear it.

Somebody here was about to die of embarrassment. Somebody.

"I'm going to regret this!" Barry shouted after he read the text but dialed Elsa's phone anyway.

It actually took Elsa a moment to register the song that started to play after Barry dialed.

She wasn't familiar with it, no, but the opening sort of spoke for itself.

The look that she gave Kathy as her phone started singing, "I'm too sexy for my love, too sexy for my love..."

Barry let out a snort of amusement and sent a text to Elsa's phone.

That's okay. I set up another ringtone. Have Kathy call your phone.

Kathy looked suspicious. "I knew I should have set up a ringtone for me while I was fiddling with your phone," she muttered, but dialed anyway.

Elsa waited for Kathy to dial, and then looked, clearly puzzled, at her phone as it rang. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqJtEyxHhkA)

It was... happy? And there was something about rainbows. And Elsa had no idea who the picture that popped up on the screen as the phone rang was, but she was short and dressed in rainbows and she had huge blonde hair, and she most certainly wasn't Kathy.

"I... don't..." She blinked at her phone as it continued to ring. "I don't get it. I am clearly missing something, here."

Kathy wasn't. Kathy so wasn't.

"Barry!" Kathy yelped. "Barry, you jerk! I am not--Ooooh, I should have gone with something even ruder for your ringtone. Can I have your phone again?"

Don't do it, Elsa. Gillette has an entire discography she can choose from.

"I'm not sure that's such a..."

Wait, no. The song about butts was on Barry's phone, Elsa was so handing hers back to Kathy again.

"... Do your worst."
