Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Were you a veteran Fandom resident? Did you finish getting your brain broken by your sibling and/or buddy? Did you just want to sit down to recover from the shuttle ride? If so, then there were plenty of tables and chairs set up across the lawn just waiting to be filled!

[This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Not really," she admitted. "But it seems silly sometimes to have to go through all sorts of chit chat to find out what you want to know. Which... is probably why they don't let me talk to anyone important or easily insulted back home."

"Couldn't have guessed that," Travis quipped but smiled a bit wider. "What happened to your face anyway? You a boxer or something? Does this place have a boxing team?"

"I know, right?" Kaylin was pretty aware of what others considered her flaws, she just didn't always agree.

Her hand went up to her face and she winced, but still smiled. "Training, back home. Sergeant decided to make up a couple months training in a week. Clearly, I have to step up what I'm doing here."

"Sergeant?" Travis repeated, tilting his head. "You a police officer or in the military or something?"

He was still getting used to all the weird universe stuff so forgive him for being a little clueless.

"Going to be a Hawk as soon as I'm old enough. Like a Police here, yeah," Kaylin said with some pride. "Until then I get to train and go along with some of them on their beat."

There was no way in all the hells that she was going to tell him they considered her a mascot right now. No way.

"Congrats?" She seemed pleased so he could try and be pleased enough for her. "Guess if it's something you like doing, being proud of your bruises isn't too strange."

"Proud... well... not so sure of that," Kaylin admitted. "I don't think you ever feel good about getting your ass kicked, but yeah, I'm proud they let me train with him. It's all I want - to be a Hawk in a couple of years."

"If you hadn't said something earlier, I would have thought you were telling me you wanted to be a bird," Travis joked. "And then I would have asked where your wings are."

"I wish I had wings," Kaylin said, looking a bit crestfallen. "The Aerians do and, oh, they're wonderful. They don't like you to touch their wings though."

Even when they were Right Out There on display. And not that it stopped Kaylin very often.

"Aerians." Another word that he hadn't heard before. Tonight, he was pretty sure he was going to have to deal with a headache from all this knew knoeldge. "Never heard of them. Any relation to Alaskans?"

When he didn't know something, he made jokes.

"I don't know," Kaylin said honestly. "Do Alaskans have wings?"

"Never been so they could," Travis said, shrugging. "Most likely they don't. They're probably just like me except colder."
