Journalistic Integrity (Friday, February 24 - 3rd period)

"Simple, easy activity today. I would like you to talk about an experience where someone asked you to do something that went against your personal convictions. What did you do? How did you react? Did you go along with it, or did you protest and come up with an alterantive? And what was so wrong about what they asked of you?" Rita asked without preamble. "Also, next week we will be starting on our midterm projects, so be prepared for that."

"I'm in high school," said Janet. "My personal convictions aren't well-formed. But I didn't let my cousin cheat off me in a math test once."

She paused, then decided to ask a question. "Do we know what our midterm projects are going to be yet? I'd like to do something about familial relationships and how journalists can write stories that affect them. It's such a fascinating subject."

OOC: I have Logan-touching needs! *hopeful look*

"I killed them," Callisto said simply. "And no, you can't know what it is they asked me to do."

Janet would have laughed, except this was Callisto. She probably wasn't joking. "Why can't you have a lame story like mine?" she asked. "You're making me look bad."

"With this teacher? With any luck she'll be too busy trying to figure out what it was, to pry into other areas for a while."

"Good point," said Janet. "You really never know with her."

Veronica made a mental note to never cross Callisto.

"My father wanted me to go off to the convent and learn how to be a proper lady. I would have rather eaten rusted nails so my twin brother and I switched places." Alanna paused. "It was completly my idea. As far as I know, or care, he died without ever finding out that Thom was learning to be a Sorceror and 'Alan' was training to be a knight. And blah blah blah I never realized my life story was so boring." Yeah, she said that part out loud.

"So you pretended to be a boy? Wow," Veronica said, clearly impressed.

Alanna nodded. "Still pretending. Some days, it's a bit terrifying. Only about five people know who 'Squire Alan' really is."

"My personal convictions?" Kara thinks for a moment and then says, "No, sorry, drawing a blank."

"Are you saying you have no personal convictions?" asked Janet. "Or that you don't ever remember anyone asking you to violate them?"
