Whatever 101, Tuesday, Period 3

Class was meeting in the computer lab today. Yes, there'd been a ~~handwavy~~ email. "Yo, today we're doing things a little more personalized," Kate said, by way of greeting. "And/or random. When you each get on a computer, you'll find it open on the WikiHow main page. From there, I want you to search for a how-to on something you're interested in learning about. Or, you can just click the option that gets you a random article if you can't think of anything in particular you wanna learn, because you might run into something fun that way."

Had she just pretty much revealed how she came up with over half of the class topics she used? Oh well.

"Also, if you wanna share what you learned with the class, you're totally welcome to, but it's optional if you don't want to. So, get to it, kidlets."

Flick

Flick chose the random option and...got how to care for your husband. Really, this was an actual article? He narrowed his eyes and read the article and almost gagged a few times.

Cripes, he could do this stuff himself. This was gross.

"I got an article about how to care for your husband," Flick told everyone, shaking his head. "Gonna do everyone a favor and not share anything because it'll only piss you off."

"What? That's an actual thing?"

Why was she even surprised? The title alone sounded like something Alice would type up in her spare time.

"I am gonna hazard a guess it didn't say anything about an equal marriage where everyone does their part."

"Do you arrange your boyfriend's toothbrush, floss and other grooming things neatly for him when he wakes up in the morning?" Flick asked. "Because if that's not a thing you do then don't expect anything worthwhile from this thing.

"If I did that, he'd worry I'd been overtaken by some kind of a pod person." Seriously. "I know someone who'd think to do that, but she kinda doesn't even exist so I don't think her ideals should count."

"The rest of this article isn't any better," he said, shaking his head. "It's total crap."

"Okay, well, lesson learned," Kate decided. "Just because a how-to exists doesn't mean the thing it's showing you how to do is one you should actually do."

Teachable moment! Not really for Flick's benefit, obviously, since he'd been the one to point out the how-to was bullshit, but still. Maybe someone else in class needed the lesson.

Elsa of Arendelle

Elsa was completely on board with the whole random article thing. Her first click took her to a how-to on making a cute sweatshirt vest, (http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Great-Sweatshirt-Vest) and a second click told her how to wear 80s layered socks (http://www.wikihow.com/Wear-80s-Style-Layered-Socks).

She was starting to get the feeling that the internet was trying to get her to change her wardrobe, here.

A third click confirmed it, sending her to a tutorial on dressing like a pin-up girl. (http://www.wikihow.com/Dress-Like-a-Pin-up-Girl)

Sigh.

Alex gave the random option a try and got How to Buy Pads Without Being Embarrassed. Really? You just paid for them.
