Forensics (5th Period)

Ms. Sidle is extremely happy this afternoon. And there is something shiny and sparkly on her left ring finger.

"There's a reason why people typically say thank god it's Friday. I want a short paragraph on what this unit has meant, in your own words. After that, you can go."

Lana signs in and writes her parargaph. Before she leaves she stops by Ms. Sidle's desk.

"Ms. Sidle... I seem to have developed this ability to identify things, well... by *taste*. Like down to their chemical compounds and stuff." She hesitates. "At least I think I'm accurate with it, but I haven't taken chemistry. It's sort of outside my realm, here."

"I sort of woke up with it this morning. I noticed it when Shep and - well, I noticed it this morning. And now, every time I taste anything, it's like I get this information about it, right down to chemical formulas sometimes, running around in my head."

"No. Nothing. Nothing at all." Lana bit her lip. "I thought at first it might be a mutation related to the meteor rocks form my hometown, but Phoebe says that there are other students who are having weird things happen. I *did* eat in the cafeteria yesterday, but usually those effects happen right away."

She hesitates again. "I do kind of wonder just how much I can do - you know? Just how much I can identify by tasting it and whether it's just kind of food things?"

Lana sighed, but nodded. "Well, thanks, Ms. Sidle. I figured it was worth a shot. I'll let you know if it's still around after the weekend."

She smiles at her, then goes over to Phoebe, shaking her head. "She doesn't know either."

Phoebe writes up her paragraph enthusiastically and hangs back, wanting to see if Sara can help her friend.
