Still want to be a Hero?, Thursday, 3rd Period

Cara had once again instructed her students to meet her in the Danger Shop. On the one hand, there were no mysterious boxes this week, on the other they were in what looked an awful lot like a changing room...

"Sometimes doing good means a person might have to act in a distasteful manner," Cara said. "Not because it goes against whatever moral code they might follow, but rather because it's humiliating or undignified." Well, that surely boded well for this class.

"In this case, a friend of yours, who by the way is the only thing standing between your world and the destruction of all life, has been captured by the Margrave of Rothenburg, who is very rich, if not particularly politically powerful. He intends to trade your friend's life for immortality for himself and his court." It probably didn't mean anything that Cara sounded like she thought very little of this Margrave person.

"Unfortunately, Rothenburg happens to be surrounded by very thick walls, which you can't tunnel under before your friend is executed, and no forms of magic, or any other powers, work with the castle's walls." None of which explained why they were in a change room. "Luckily, the Margrave has decided he needs a new wife to go with everlasting life, and he hasn't actually met one of his two final choices, so you're all going to impersonate the virtuous Princess of Thrice." Oh, look, it's that other shoe dropping.

"Before anyone points out that that some of you lack the attributes to imitate a princess, you're still going to because the Margrave has some utterly insane ideas about how women are supposed to act and it's not fair to only expect the girls in the class to put up with him." Because Cara was always completely concerned with fairness. Always. "So in addition to trying to rescue your friend, you cannot make eye contact with any man, you have to pretend you have no opinions of your own, and when talking to the Margrave you have to speak in rhyme.

"But don't worry if you think you'll have trouble remembering all this, because you're going to have help." Two men, one a few years older than the class with an earnest face and unfortunate hair, the other older, extremely tall, and wearing robes, appeared in the room. Cara put her hand on the younger one's shoulder. "Richard here will be playing the part of your brother, Prince Roderick, and Zedd there will be standing in for your dowager aunt. He knows all about poetry and etiquette."

"So get changed, and Zedd will explain everything you need to know in excruciating detail."

Like a pretty, pretty princess.

Wonder at how virtuous exactly a princess can be if she's willing to let the entire world die if she's survives.

While you put on your pretty dresses, get your bling in order, and do your hair, Zedd is explaining the joys of rhyming dactylic tetrameter.

Upon exiting the change-room, you're now in a throne room where the Margrave and his throne rest upon a dias. Richard now has a bad dye-job, and Zedd is wearing a dress. Do your best to impress the Margrave, even if you have to have a curstey-off with your competition.

So impressing the Margrave didn't go so well, time for a dance lesson with Zedd!

While Richard is off casing the castle, it's time for some ladylike embroidery. The Margrave has been paying more attention to your cleavage than your rival's, but your sewing skills, don't really stack up to hers. Maybe some improvised poetry will salvage the situation?

So Richard not only failed to seduce the dungeon keys out of the Margrave's sister, you're now looking at a double wedding. This plan is clearly not working, time to lay down the law and come up with something that plays to your strengths.

You're hunting Shadrin, large, ferocius, man-eating beasts. A proper lady would swoon and let the Margrave kill it. But you've abandoned Plan Pretty Pretty Princess, haven't you, so put that bow and arrow you've been given to work.

Killing Shadrin and making eye contact seem to be working on the Margrave, and your poetic skills have suddenly improved, but the Sisters of the Dark, who looking to collect on your friend's head, have shown up. Better find a way to get the Margrave alone and fast!

Success, you and the Margrave are alone in his room, and you got him to send the guards away. Time to find out where that key is...with your fists.

You have the key and you're at the dungeon doors, but you have some Sisters of the Dark to deal with. Luckily your friend has been busy rescuing herself (and the Margrave's current wife) and she's brought some swords to the party. You have an awesome friend there.

Time for some bonding and fighting!

You've rescued your friend, and fled Rothenburg, so now you get to relax while your friend makes fun of your dress and looks down your cleavage. Because that's what friends do.

If one of them seems overly amused by today's class, it's because Kahlan is a horrible gossip who likes sharing embarrassing stories about Cara.

Princess miiiight be one of my favouritest episodes ever.

Kaylin Neya

As long as her arms, back, and legs were completely covered, Kaylin didn't mind the dresses. At least the bottom part was loose enough that you could fight or run in them.

Kaylin had completely failed the whole speaking in rhyme thing, so she just wasn't planning to talk at all.

Hope he didn't mind his toes being crushed...

Fancy sewing? So not happening. But there was a fair amount of swearing in Leontine as Kaylin mostly bled all over hers.

Oh bleah. Bleah, bleah, bleah!

This Kaylin could do. She wasn't overly familiar with bows and arrows, but she was good enough to hunt the whatever that silly thing was!

Kaylin grabbed him by the arm, batting her eyes furiously, and attempted to ~~drag~~ lead him to his room.

Another thing Kaylin was good at! She had the key in no time and was off! The Margrave was going to have one heck of a headache!

Fighting. Again, something Kaylin could do!

Not that Kaylin had much in the way of cleavage, but whatever. At least they were out!

Look who wasn't a kitty! And thought this whole thing was hilarious!

If you guessed Surreal, you'd be guessing right.

Cara was grateful for the first, if not so much the second.

"I'm glad you find this funny." Of course, no one had actually forced Cara to come up with this class, so she had only herself to blame there.

Four

Four hated everything about today, but at least he wasn't being locked in a box?

Hey, bright side.

Evan was actually kind of relieved that powers apparently didn't work in here, because he could easily just change his shape to fill out the dress, and he wanted to give this class his all, because being a hero was that important to him.

Still, it was pretty hard to not feel a bit dumb just being an awkward-looking boy in a dress, too.

At least he was learning something about poetry?

Thank God Zedd looked worse than Four did because Four was one of the least convincing women ever.

Four spoke in rhyme, but it was hardly the most convincing conversation ever.

As long as Four thought of it as fight choreography, he was doing all right.

And didn't look too hard at Zedd because Lord was that not an attractive look.

There was something VERY WRONG with this guy looking down his dress, Four felt, but didn't accidentally kick the man very hard in the ankle, or stab him with a dinner knife, which he thought was quite polite.

He did wonder if he could kill him with an embroidery hoop, especially when he screwed up the poetry tempo...

Four was totally stealing anything palm-able and stabby he could find.

It took Four a bit of time before he could actually hit something he was aiming for, which irritated him unreasonably. Couldn't he use a gun like a normal person? Ugh.

By...not stabbing him, right?

Sigh.

Four yanked the guy out by his hand, muttering under his breath the entire time. It was shocking Four had never had a girlfriend. Really.

Four punched him right in the face. He'd been wanted to allllll class.

It was easier to search someone once they were unconscious anyway.

Yay, fighting!

The skirt was really hampering Four's ability to kick people effectively, though. Ugh. No wonder most of the women in Dauntless preferred leather pants...

Kira Yukimura

Four hated his fake friend a LOT.

Kira was definitely a skirt girl, so a pretty pretty dress was a fabulous upgrade as far as she was concerned.

Kira managed the meter all right, but her rhymes were pretty weaksauce. She made up for it with a lot of smiling though!

"You never killed a Shadrin for me," Surreal pointed out, pretending to be sad. "Why don't I get one? Don't you like me?"

Though if Cara did Like her, she'd let Surreal do some of the hunting (of the Margrave-fashion) too.

Cara would be more than happy to let Surreal have a go at either the fake Margrave or the real one.

"Yes, that's exactly it," she deadpanned. "It has nothing to do with there not being any around when you've visited."
