US History (Thursday, February 23, 7th period)

"Good afternoon, students. My name is Mr Feeny. You may call me Mr Feeny. I'm substituting for Professor Lyman today for reasons that don't concern any of you.

Fortunately for those of you who don't value your education, I was unable to procure a lesson plan for today, so you will be subjected to a class of discussion. And no, I don't mean about the latest music video or hip new toy. Today you will review what you have learned from Professor Lyman so far and state what you believe to be the most significant historical event so far. Also please qualify it with an appropriate reason as to why it is so."

"Who would you consider 'the man', Mr Sandburg? King George? The man in charge of the British troops? Or do you mean the so-called 'Man' as a metonymy?"

Blair sat up straighter. He was an expert on The Man. "The Man can be anything that's oppressing a group of people. The FBI, the government, substitute teachers. In this situation England and King George specfically were The Man. Also those who were enforcing the taxes on the colonists could be described as The Man."

"Exactly. They rose up against their oppressor! They fought for their rights! They found a peaceful solution to a problem!" Blair stood and raised his fist. "Right on, Early Americans!"

"Sit down please, Mr Sandburg. The Boston Tea Party was merely the precursor to a violent conflict between the Americans and the British troops. If you're seeking a peaceful solution to latch on to, I would recommend taking a history class for a nation that didn't have a bloody and violent history. But for the purposes of today's discussion, and the short notice upon which the topic was announced, I'll grant you your answer without any further prompting."

He turned to the next student to taunt them ask them about their choice.
