Introduction to Archaeology, 5th Period

Daniel's attention is focused on his laptop as he waits for his students.

"Okay, hopefully you're all set to present today," he said. "And after that, I hope you've all remembered the gifts Pippi so thoughtfully gave you last lesson, because I get to be the adult supervision."

Daniel's pleased with this. Normally he's the one who has to be supervised.

"Yeah, alive... You know, as in 'not dead'."

It should be noted that the picture on the box is of a very small and plastic looking dino skeleton.

Pippi was about to dig in with the little trowel when she hesitated and looked up at Daniel.

"Should I start with the brush?"

"I shoulda brought a camera so we could document the layers." she said.

Then she shrugged and started sifting the sand aside carefully.

"Sweet!"

Pippi took the camera and snapped a picture of the "first layer", and then continued sifting the sand aside.

"I think the discoloration in this layer indicates that ancient tribesmen once cooked their dinner over an open fire in this spot." she said in an approximation of something she'd heard on the Hitler History Channel.

Pippi picked up a grain of sand with her tweezers.

"Yes! Here is a fragment of a small bone tool known to have been used in the starting of fires!"
