Introduction to Archaeology, 5th Period

Daniel's attention is focused on his laptop as he waits for his students.

"Okay, hopefully you're all set to present today," he said. "And after that, I hope you've all remembered the gifts Pippi so thoughtfully gave you last lesson, because I get to be the adult supervision."

Daniel's pleased with this. Normally he's the one who has to be supervised.

Blair bounced up and held out an article. "I read "The Bamboo Stick Calendar of the Muong People in Vietnam" from the Archaeoastronomy Journal. It was pretty interesting. It was about the way the Muong people measure and tell the passage of time and mark events in their history. I really thought it would be cool if I could duplicate the calendar, but no matter how I rearranged my sticks, I still ended up having three Tuesdays in a week. But the article was still pretty cool."

Daniel smiled. "Thank you, Blair. I'd be interested to see your stick calendar, if you still have it. Even if it does have three Tuesdays!"

Blair bounced. "I'll bring it in next week. Although it's less sticks and more coffee straws...but it's the same principle!"

"Maybe sticks and not straws do make a difference?" Daniel suggested. Hey, he'd seen weirder stuff happen.

"That's possible." Blair bounced. "Maybe I'll gather some sticks this weekend and try and make another one. With just one or two tuesdays a week!"

"Personally, I think one Tuesday a week is enough," Daniel said. "Although it could have been worse; you could have ended up with three Mondays," he laughed.

"Three Fridays would be even worse! You'd never know when the right one was and you'd never know when it was safe to go get drunk." He stopped and remembered all of a sudden that Daniel was a teacher. "Not that I get drunk. Or drink. Or do anything bad. Ever." He wondered if that was a bit over the top.

Daniel smiled. "Don't worry, Blair. I've already had a reliable source inform me of what goes in in the dorms. Or at least, some of the things that happen there."

Blair nodded. "That's the second floor probably. They do a lot of stuff. I'm on the fourth floor. We're good. Boring sometimes...but good."

Daniel tried not to stare at Blair. "Is that floor that bad?" he asked, wondering just what they hadn't told him.

Blair leaned closer. "Dude, anything cool or weird or embarrasing you hear that goes on in the dorms...90% chance it happened on the second floor."

Daniel knew he shouldn't be gossiping with students.

But yet he went ahead with it.

"Really?" he asked, raising his eyebrows. "Like, um, what?"

Blair leaned forward and whispered. "So all that boykissy stuff went on there, I think. Plus someone played spin the bottle. Logan's big party was there and I think some people were drinking then." Blair had a captive audience and couldn't resist embellishing a little. "Plus they have a contest each week and whoever wins has to streak through the common room. Everyone on the floor has to take a turn."

Boykissy? Daniel was pretty sure he didn't want to know about that. Still, at least that would be something Janet wouldn't be involved in.

Daniel gulped. "Streaking through the common room?" The images that that produced were certainly not suitable for the classroom.

Blair nodded seriously. "Streaking. And people throw money." Hey, it was his story, he could add to it.

Daniel swallowed - hard. "So, nudity's a casual thing on that floor?" he asked, trying to sound casual.

"Totally. It's like the nude floor. They're pretty casual about kissing and stuff too. Probably sex too. It's like...really really bad."

Daniel wondered if he needed to sit down and have a chat with Janet some time soon.

Not that he didn't trust her, because he did. Completely.

"So, do you know many of the second floor?" He really did try to sound casual there.

"Some. Angel's my big brother and he lives with John. Callisto sleeps over a lot with Angel." Blair nodded. "They're dating. "Logan lives there and Cally and Anders who are also dating and Bridge. Bridge is cool! Um, Sam lives there too, I think, oh and Charlie Kawalsky lives somewhere there...but I couldn't find his room."

Daniel was relieved that Janet wasn't mentioned. Surely after those tales of the second floor, anonimity was a good thing?

He nodded. "I know Sam and Charlie," he said. "I never realized that they were, ah, quite that casual."

So if anyone started dropping dead on the second floor, he knew who Sam had been kissing, right?

Blair nodded. "Although I don't know everyone on the floor because I'm a freshman. Plus I try to stay away from the sex and naked stuff. It gets me all flustered and I sort blush and once I fell down."

Daniel mentally *flailed*. And would quite possibly had physically *flailed* if that wouldn't be, y'know, unteacherlike and stuff.

"Oh," was all he managed to say, his voice cracking slightly.

"Do you know someone on that floor besides Sam and Charlie?"

"I know some of them, yes. Jack O'Neill when he's actually around, Cameron Mitchell, Vala Mal Doran. Elizabeth Weir and Janet Fraiser," Daniel replied, his voice managing to sound vaguely normal.

Blair nodded. "Oh yeah, I've seen Vala and Janet around there. Elizabeth too, although I don't talk to any of them much. They're a tight group." Blair winked and grinned. "You know what I mean, man?"

"I think Cam's into drugs. Steroids maybe." He winced a little and decided that was too far. "Well, probably not, he just has some anger problems."
