The class was called 'Choose Your Own Adventure,' right? Well, after getting Kenzi's e-mail, Sparkle was going to step up to bat and choose his. He went and sent up a follow-up e-mail to his fellow classmates informing them that there would be a final this semester after all. Show up to the Danger Shop. Bring a... newspaper?

Apparently it was important. Just roll with it.

When they got there, they would find the place all decked out like a seaport, with Sparkle standing on top of a pirate ship that was flying the Jolly Roger and all. Atop his head, of course he was wearing a newspaper pirate hat.

"So, our esteemed captain be down with a touch 'o the scurvy today," he said, in a thick, piratey drawl. "This means we haven't got her guidance for the last voyage of the good ship, Bonne Aventure." A beat, and then he briefly was dropping the pirate accent to add, "It's a clever name if you know anything about Canadian naval history. Just roll with it. Anyway, this be a reverse-mutiny! Don your pirate caps - which you'll have to make yourselves out of the newspapers I had you bring, and let's be doing all those important mutiny things! First step is gatherin' yer effects. A proper hat, and make a cutlass out of cardboard if ye be so inclined. Second step? Plunderrrrr! Stop by the cafeteria and we'll get our fearless captain some proper gruel and grog to help speed her recovery. Then we can set off to her quarters, to wish her a speedy recovery, and that she'll be gettin' through this tough time with all her teeth intact. Arrrr."

He gave the group a grin, and then hoisted his own cardboard cutlass to the sky.

"For good Cap'n Kenzi! Let's set sail, ye scallywags!"

[Open! THIS BE A MUTINY. ARRRRR.]

You are a pirate!

Wherein Sparkle proves that he's totally crazy.

But the pirate ship is nifty, and he's actually wearing his paper hat pretty well, so...

If you brought a newspaper, make yourself a pirate hat! If you didn't, you're going to ask your classmates for a page from theirs. Or loot it from them. You are a pirate, after all.

There are also a few cardboard boxes and some scissors that Sparkle plundered from a recycling bin (not-quite-piracy), and a teacher's desk (actual piracy), if you want to make yourself a cardboard cutlass, or a parrot for your shoulder, or whatever else you feel you'll be needing for your piratey goings-on today.

Which mostly means 'hit up the cafeteria for good sick-people food to bring to our suffering Captain Kenzi,' but if you have better ideas for how to spend the class, whether it be roaming town for get well soon cards, or lazing around and not doing anything, that's totally up to you.

Yep, near the end of class, First Mate Sparklebeard hollers loudly to gather anyone within earshot out front of the school. And then he leads anybody willing to go with him straight to Kenzi's front door.

Party at the captain's house!

... Or at least delivery of a care package consisting of whatever it is that a sick pirate captain needs. Paper hats and limes to prevent scurvy or something.

He'll be humming various pirate themed songs throughout the day, and he'll be happy to help you with any paper hat malfunctions or locks that you figure need picking, or whatever.

Had to happen eventually!

We have full permission to crash into Kenzi's post to wish her a swift recovery, or to throw a last-day-of-class party, or whatever turns out happening over there. Feel free! Or just yutz around in this post, pirating for the duration of class, if you'd prefer.

It said something that Karina was seriously unsurprised by this, right?

That didn't mean she was just going to take it, mind.

"Seriously?"

But, hey, she was here. And she'd brought a newspaper. Shut up.

"I'm pretty sure cafeteria food is the wrong thing to feed a sick person," Karina pointed out.

Because ew, cafeteria food, that's why. And no, she wasn't going to talk like a pirate. That would be putting way too much effort into this.

Look, the fact she was wearing a newspaper hat was effort enough.

"You don't have to be a pirate," Sparkle sniffed. "That's right there in the name of the class. But that means we're going to have to make you walk the plank."

A beat.

"Into chocolate pudding."

Neither of these things were actually true.

Raven Darkholme

"You can't make me do anything," she pointed out, sniffing right back. "I could take you. It'd be you walking the plank into pudding."

The plank that she was pretty sure didn't exist.

Besides, why would someone waste that much pudding? Geez.

There was a moment's pause while Sparkle considered this turn of events, and then he broke into a stupid grin. Hey, at least there was a fairly pirate-like walking-the-plank style retort! He'd take it.

"You'd sacrifice me to the pudding sharks? That's cold, Karina."

Pun unintentional.

"You have no idea how cold I can be," she retorted swiftly, clearly fighting a grin of her own. Though maybe for a different reason than Sparkle was grinning. Yeah. "If I ran this pirate ship, the pudding sharks would be well fed."

Or something? Look, she didn't know. Words?

"You'd be the sort to run a tight ship then, would you? Captain Kenzibeard would be proud." Probably. "But I'm afraid you stand no chance against me and my mighty cutlass. Since, um, you don't have one, and all."

It made it difficult to duel mightily.

"Your cutlass is made of cardboard."

Karina gave up and lost her battle against her grin. "I'm still pretty sure I could take you."

She didn't have a hat yet either. So there.

"Ugh, you are the worst pirate, Karina," Sparkle laughed. "And I don't mean that in the good way!"

This was clearly meant to cut deep, what with the way he was cackling and all.

"I'm only bad because I don't want to be good at it," she said, sticking her tongue out at him. "If I wanted to be, I'd be the best pirate."

Given Karina's record for excelling at whatever she wanted to do... this was more like justifiable arrogance on her part than anything else.

"Well, for today, being a kinda shitty reluctant pirate will do. Lucky you, right?"

Super lucky!

"Anyway, you'd probably look weird in a pirate hat."

Of course, when they were made of newspaper, anybody would.

Raven had not, in fact, brought a newspaper. She actually didn't know where one would find a newspaper in this day and age, at a school where one didn't have a father figure who liked to hide behind it at breakfast. She could, at least, mimic a pretty swanky outfit at least, though.

She went with cardboard pistols. It was always nice to have weapons you could put down when you wanted free hands, instead of reshaping.

Raven grabbed a big jug of orange juice.

For the scurvy, you know.

"I hate to break it to you," she said dryly, "but you look pretty weird yourself right now."

"Yeah, but like that's anything new?"

Right now, Karina? Sparkle was almost offended! He looked pretty weird all the time, and he was damn proud of it.

She blinked at him.

"I generally don't even notice anymore," she said honestly. "It's all just... you."
