Community Service and You, Friday, Period 2, Outside the Front Gates of the School

Welcome to the school gates, everyone! There were tables set up and plenty of baked goods, hopefully some made by people in the class.

"Welcome to the smallest fundraiser you'll take part in this session," Bruce said. It was probably surprising, but he was dressed down a bit today. No suit coat, no tie... He was rocking the business casual. As it turned out, people didn't usually buy too many baked goods from a guy in a dark suit. "The goals for this are simple. Something you made gets put toward a good cause, then you sell the treats to people who care at least a little about your cause. Or maybe they were just hungry. One of the truths to fundraising is that you're not picky about why somebody's giving you their money unless you have a good reason for it."

"Not, let's get to work selling."

[OOC: There are playing and modding threads for buying baked goods, so the general public is welcome!]

Selling baked goods.

Oh. God. This was like hell for Barry. At least it was a step above fast food.

But it was for charity so he plastered on a fake smile for the public.

"Who wants some fu-"

*cough*

"Who wants some delicious muffins?"

Evan wasn't much of a baker, but he had learned a thing or two from his virtual-reality mother back on the virtual-reality farm he'd grown up on. So, cookies. Chocolate chip and peanut butter, both pretty simple, but they weren't burned and they were actually pretty tasty, even if he had to google a recipe that seemed more or less close to the one he remembered.

There were a few teeth-marks in the tupperware container he'd brought them to the bake sale in. Old Lace had helped. But the cookies themselves were safe!

Oh, of course Cosette had baked things for the sale -- she'd been eager to try out some of the pastry recipes she'd learned but was never allowed to use at the convent because they were far too decadent. Yes, French pastries, so there were cream puffs and apple tartes tatin (well past her time but she'd had a grand time perusing the recipe books in the school library for this) and even some crème brûlée because she'd gotten ambitious. (The caramelized topping on the crème brûlée was slightly unevenly toasted, but it was otherwise fine.)

She was also more than prepared to persuade, coerce, or flat-out puppyface you into buying them, or any of the other baked goods.

Kathy had decided to go with some of the Korean baked goods she'd grown up with. She thought an East Coast bake sale could use something a little different to compliment the cookies and cakes she was sure would be there.

And, y'know, she had a little bungeoppang iron and there was no way in heck that she was going to pass up the opportunity to sell fish-shaped pastries to her fellow students.

Also, she'd used canned red bean paste. She'd like to say it was because finding the canned stuff was surprisingly easier than finding red beans, but mostly it was because she was lazy and hadn't wanted to spend several hours boiling beans for a one hour class.

In the end, she'd shown up with hotteok, bindaeddeok, and the aforementioned bungeoppang, as well as some homemade candied ginger.

[Am leaving for the woods in a few, but if you don't mind me picking up the threads on Monday, have at! Or feel free to mod below.]
