Choose Your Own Adventure, Thursday afternoon

Kenzi had sent the students (there was no way she could think of them as 'her' students) an email last night, telling them to meet her at the bus stop early for class.

"Field trip day!" she caroled. "We're going to the Graffiti Warehouse for an art day. There's a body painter there who's providing props, so if you want to paint up and photograph yourself against his backdrops, knock yourself out. There are mural-sized canvases, so go crazy. Only thing you can't do that I actually don't want you to do is photograph other people's art, 'cause that's sketchy without their permission, and I'd like to go back there again sometime."

She gave them a cherubic smile. "There'll be another event after we get back."

"Back home, people would not take their clothes off so easily. Or at all really. Not in public."

She wasn't a prude, really. Just not used to something like this.

"I'm not sure I understand the point of this," she admitted. She was looking a little ragged and dirty, with blood peeking out here and there from where she hadn't quite cleaned it all up well enough. Don't worry, it wasn't hers.

"The unclothed part, or the graffiti part?" Kenzi frowned a little. "Dude, you're not going to get paint in any scratches, are you? That's a little too avant-garde."

"Either really," Kaylin said.

She looked down at her long sleeves and sighed at the mess. "It's not mine," she said. "I thought I cleaned it all up, but I guess I didn't do so good a job. Do people do stuff like this painting thing a lot here?"

She'd never seen that before either.

"Oh sure. They don't where you're from?" Kenzi shook up a can, fast, and sprayed a large K onto a random mural in bright tangerine. "I mean, you do it outside, on buildings, it's a way of marking territory. Or expressing an opinion. Or you know, just beautifying the boring. Here, it's mostly just to make stuff pretty. Or a point. Or let out the urge to make a mark." She grinned. "The body-painting stuff is half making it look like it's three-dimensional in photos? And I think half for the shock factor."

She bit her lip. "Should I ask, as a nominally responsible adult person, almost, whose blood it is? Or should we just let that go as 'I should see the other guy'?"

"Well, we don't have anything like those cans, that's for sure," Kaylin said. "But I guess it's... kind of interesting."

Then the rest of what Kenzi said registered. "What? Oh no! I didn't hurt anyone! When I was in Professor Skywalker's class one of the giant hairy things cut his arm and I..." She hesitated. Technically she wasn't supposed to talk about it. In Elantra. Which technically she wasn't in, so...

"Well, I healed it, but it bled a lot and I got it all over me. And then I fell on the floor, so... yeah."

"Ahhh. So you were being magic paramedic, and didn't have time to wash everything up. Gotcha. Whew." Kenzi's smile had brightened. "Cooool. You're definitely okay now, though?"

She looked at the can of spray paint, and pointed to some of the bigger brushes around too. "We've got those, the more traditional stuff. And smaller ones for detail work. Nice thing about spraying, is it's fast, so, you can do a big space pretty quickly if you go for the big sweeping art."

"Just tired," Kaylin admitted. "I did a lot this week, but I couldn't just let him bleed like that, you know?"

Still Kenzi's enthusiasm was infectious, so she picked up a can gingerly and pushed the button - luckily with the spray part facing away from her - and jumped as it went everywhere. "Woah!"

Kenzi snickered. "Fun, hunh? It's under pressure, don't ask me how they get it in there, I've got no clue, but one little press of the button, and--"

PSSSHHHHHHHT another E next to the K, and then an N!

"You're in business!" She grinned at Kaylin. "Just don't get that crap in your eyes, bad plan... and of course you can't let somebody bleed out. I just hope he gave you cookies for it."

Always get cookies!

"Professor Skywalker told us not to eat anything, so no," Kaylin said.

She gingerly pushed the button again and made a messy swirl on the wall. "This is very strange."

"I would have liked cookies. Maybe I'll get one after class."

"You should," Kenzi said firmly. "Dude, that's why you're tired. Sugar! You need sugar!... and you're doing fine, nobody expects perfection with this stuff."

"Well, that's good, because I'm sure I won't achieve it," Kaylin said dryly. "But if it's okay to just make a mess, I can do that."

Something sweet did sound good.

"Maybe I can go to that Gob place after. i think they had sweet things in there."

"Get some of the berry muffins," Kenzi counseled, adding a swirly N and Z next to her name thus far. "They make those fresh, they're delish."

Seriously, Dean Skywalker, you didn't even feed a kid who bandages you up? You're so Grinchy.

Not Professor Skywalker! It was one of the giant hairy things - Wookiees maybe?

"Berry muffins," Kaylin said thoughtfully. "Maybe I will."
