fandomhigh | BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge, Saturday Morning

There was a crackle of energy before reality split and portal opened up into the Portalocity Lounge. A few seconds later a figure popped through the portal wearing what appeared to be an environmental suit attached to an air supply hose going back into the portal. He then pulled out a tablet device and took some readings before stripping off the environmental suit revealing the teenager known as Barry Ween.

"Okay, Jeremy. I'm here and the atmosphere is breathable. Send the rest of my shit through," Barry said into his comm headset. "No. Just push it into the portal and pull back the suit. Jesus Christ! How fucking hard is it to push it through numb-nuts? Just fucking push it!"

Three suitcases and a large crate appeared through the portal. "About fucking time. Okay, now press the button to close the portal. Which one? The big fucking button that has a label on it that says 'PRESS THIS FUCKING BUTTON AND NOTHING ELSE.' Are you fucking kidding me? No. No. No! Just fucking forget it! Don't touch anything I'll shut it down remotely."

A couple of taps on his pad and the portal disappeared with a "plip." "All right it's done. Don't touch any of my fucking stuff while I'm gone, Jeremy. You hear me? All right. I'll check in with you later."

Barry looked up at the glittery sign bearing the name 'Fandom High' and grunted before going back to his tablet and taking further readings; muttering to himself occasionally when he found something of interest.

The shuttle has arrived! What mysterious strange will transport this motley band of newbies to their new educational experience?

Up early as I may be yanked into a meeting at 4:00.

Seriously. Who plans a meeting at 4:00 on a Friday?

Kate was no newbie. She'd already done that bit almost five years ago. (Holy shit, had it been that long ago? Seriously?) So, now she was the 20-year-old looking curiously around at others around, wondering whether she should warn them about what lay ahead for them on the other side of their impending shuttle ride.

Probably not, though. But at least she was smiling a bit and trying to look teacherly and approachable.

Barry looked up from his tablet briefly to see who just walked in and nodded in greeting before turning his attention back to his tablet.

"So you're going to Fandom?" Barry asked not looking up from his tablet. "I'm Barry. Senior. Transfer. You?"

Four was completely overwhelmed by the amount of noise in the airport (and the airplanes, to be completely honest), but none of that was showing on his face. He'd learned over the last few months how to conquer his fears and he wasn't about to look vulnerable in front of strangers.

He walked under the sign, slung down his knapsack and nodded gravely at the people there already.

One minute, Rapunzel was running through the forest and trying to look up through the branches to see if she could navigate her way to the lights by the sun. (So far, little to no success.) The next, there'd been a big...wavy thing, and she'd debated with herself a good long time about whether to walk through it.

It was probably obvious which option she'd chosen. She was holding all her hair to her chest, Pascal on her shoulder when she arrived, but as she took in her surroundings, she carefully dropped her hair to let it pool at her feet.

"Where am I?" she asked aloud, mostly to herself.

Barry looked up and nodded briefly at the new guy in return before looking back at his tablet.

"Sup?"

Seemed like a guy-greeting-thing to say.

A bus that did not have a Union Jack painted on it, thank you very much, Jono.

Anakin swept into the waiting area with his Jedi robes swirling behind him, a small glower on his face. Karking drivers and their terrible lack of driver skills. "Fandom High? Get your stuff."

"Baltimore Washington International Airport," Barry said not looking up from his tablet. "Specifically the portalocity lounge for Fandomhigh. You going there?"

At the last part he looked up and blinked.

"Okay, that's some serious hair."

Barry looked at the bus driver skeptically.

"You're our driver?" Barry asked. "What's with the robes?"

"Hello," Four replied. He glanced up at the Fandom sign. "That thing is very...cheerful."

Four was wearing black. Glitter wasn't exactly something you saw a lot of in Dauntless.

Rapunzel turned to the boy who'd spoken -- a boy. She'd never seen one before, except in books. She tried not to stare (even though she really, really needed to know if he had pointy teeth), and ignored the stab of panic at the fact that he'd noticed her hair.

Well, of course he had. She'd known people would look at it. Even she knew that wasn't normal.

"Thanks," she said, too-casually. "Um...I don't know what anything you said means. I mean, I know what you mean about my hair, but what's a Baltimore...whatsit?"

Barry looked up at the sign again and grunted dismissively. "Looks like someone went a little pintrest crazy if you ask me."

"Kate Gregson, teacher," Kate replied, sounding (and looking, not that he knew that) a little amused. "So you might want to consider actually looking at me when you're talking to me."

"It's a city," he replied still looking at the hair trying to scientifically explain what kind of diet this girl was on to carry that much hair. "We're at an airport and... how in the world do you carry that around without getting split ends?"

"I will when I figure out if there's any time parameter shift difference from this dimension to my own," Barry continued and tapped a few more buttons before nodding and putting the tablet down. "Couple of milliseconds. Good. I can graduate and not have my friends be senior citizens."

He then turned his attention back to Kate and raised an eyebrow.

"Aren't you a little young to be a teacher?"

"Pinterest?" Four repeated, frowning. "What's that?"

He hoped it was a what, anyway...

"I brush it a lot," Rapunzel said, over-confident before her face melted into confusion again. "What's an airport?"

She had the feeling she may have taken a wrong turn. Possibly.

Four glanced over at her and blinked at the hair. Even Amity weren't quite as exuberant with their hair as that (and he was understanding the Abnegation rules about cutting the stuff regularly now). "That's a lot of hair."

"I'm twenty."

Yes, in her mind that was old enough. Also, Fandom obviously thought so!

"I'm going to take that as a compliment about not looking old, though. Because I'm nice like that."

Barry gave Four a look. Really?

"It's a social media computer thing," he said slowly. "Clearly you're not from around here. I'm Barry."

"I like them," Anakin said, frowning.

He really did just set himself up for abuse every time he did this by wearing the Jedi uniform.

"And I'm the Dean of Students who just happens to enjoy driving."

Driving really, really fast. And sometimes not on the road. Sorry, kids.

"Thanks. I'm...growing it out," Rapunzel said, deciding to treat it as a compliment. No one seemed to be after it yet, at least -- she wasn't sure what she'd do if someone realized her hair was valuable. She never should've left.

She looked over at the boy (another one -- also hopefully without pointy teeth?) who had spoken, and replied, "That's a lot of...black."

Four held out his hand. "I'm Four. Not from around here."
