Fun & Games, Monday, Period 2

Class met outside today, on some of the grassy fields behind the school. "Welcome to the last day of class," Jack said, idly tossing a baseball from hand to hand as she spoke. "We've played all kinds of games this semester, and I hope you didn't hate 'em. For our final today, we're going to make up our own game. You have 15 minutes to talk through ideas and set ground rules, and then start playing. Extra credit if you figure out a way to use powers."

She tossed the ball toward the students. "Whoever catches this, you get to make the first suggestion."

Listen to Jack, then work on coming up with your own version of Calvinball.

"Right, so I think that we could take the ball and throw it into glasses of beer and whoever misses has to drink."

That's beerpong, Cade.

"Am I a buzzkill if I tell you to do it without the beer?" Jack queried. "Actually, forget that. No beer. Get drunk on your own time."

"You are no karking fun at all sometimes," Cade declared.

"Only when I'm on the clock," Jack returned. "Fair's fair. If I can't play a drinking game right now, neither can you."

"So after class's over?" Cade suggested, eyes twinkling. "Won't be a student then."

Jack snorted. "Tell you what, once you're not a student I'd even buy you the beer for it."

Mostly because biotic tolerance was amazing and she figured on drinking Cade under the table. No one said she was nice.

"It's a date," Cade said, winking.

Cade made good choices.

Sparkle was going to stand there making faces at the extra credit thing.

"So, like, the two of us in the class who don't fucking have powers don't have a chance in hell? Cool."

Sparkle's powers issues were coming up again.

"No, not cool," Jack said, wincing. "Okay, maybe I didn't think that piece through. Figure out how somebody else can use their powers and you get the points."

"That extra credit's only if we can figure out how to use powers, right?" Zee asked. "Because I sure as hell don't have any."

"Right," Jack said, running a palm over her forehead in embarrassment. "Figure out a way to incorporate someone else's powers, and it counts just as much."

Lowering her voice, she confided, "You're all getting A's no matter what, so."

And Natasha, who came along today and is happy to help chase down any stray balls.
