Armed and Dangerous [Tuesday, Period Four]
The Danger Shop was back to all of it resembling a gym this week, Bond stood at the front of the class, flipping a knife over in his hand.
"Good afternoon," he said. "I'm afraid we're coming up on the end of our time together, so I advise you to get some practice in before your final, but before that, today we're going to be looking at knife-fighting."
"Now, some of the same considerations apply to knife-fighting as with other bladed weapons, for example ideally your knife or dagger should be well-balanced and sharpened, you should be able to get a good grip on the handle, and while not essential, hopefully there's some kind of guard to protect your fingers. However there are also several important differences, as those ladies in this class who have indicated some experience with knives might tell you, knife-fighting is dirty, up-close fighting, and unless you are unbelievably good or somehow invulnerable, any serious protracted bout between two opponents wielding knives likely to end with one dead and the other needing medical attention."
Bond went on to demonstrate several basic techniques, starting with gripping the blade, before moving on to actually using one.
"Now, I'd like you to practice what I've shown you, either against a dummy or each other. The practice knives won't harm you, but they will leave marks so you can see how much damage you might have done to yourselves."
