Handling Your Powers, Tuesday

Kaidan met the class at a normal classroom, looking tired and more than a little bruised. The care at Huerta had been excellent, but some things just had to heal on their own. Whether he liked it or not.

"We're going to have a class discussion today," he said. He hadn't had the energy to set up much else. "When is it okay to use your powers? When is it okay to use offensive powers? And what are the dangers of using them - even if it's just for mundane tasks?"

He sat down, grabbed a protein bar, and took a bite.

When is it appropriate to use your powers? When is it okay to use offensive powers? What constraints are important? What rules of thumb would you use? When does it get dangerous?

"You can become dependent on them," Celia said, visibly wilting a little. "Which -- I am, as we've discussed. I'm working on it, though! But...as for offensive powers, I almost never have used mine that way, but the few times I have have been in self-defense, and I think that's the only real appropriate instance. Particularly if you're not playing on a level field, so to speak -- it's terribly unfair for me to use my magic on someone non-magical, I think."

"I guess... it changes from person to person," Evan offered, quietly. "I don't use my offensive powers all of the time. Things like energy beams and all. But my shapeshifting, I use a lot. Stretching my arms to reach things, mostly. Stretching is pretty harmless."

And until he'd hit his growth spurt this year, he'd always been pretty short.

"But... I've had people yell at me and call me a freak for that, so I suppose opinions kind of differ from person to person, there." He shrugged his shoulders a little, trying to look dismissive. Mostly it just looked like a stiff, forced gesture. Especially since he couldn't look up and make eye-contact as he did so.
