Flavors, Food Choices, and Menu Planning - Friday, 4th period

All the students in the class were getting e-mail that morning:

From: Dr. Hannibal Lecter
Subject: Today's class
Importance: High

Due to the increasingly lethal population of the island, class today will be optional, and held in the gourmet suite of the Arms Hotel. If you choose not to attend, it will not affect your grade; should you choose to show, you will obtain extra credit and be given the opportunity to taste dinosaur meat.

Hannibal wasn't going anywhere today, but if you wanted to, he would feed you.

Sholeh

Lecture?

[identity profile] never-dull.livejournal.com 2014-03-28 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
No lecture today. Watch Hannibal cook, and ask questions/offer suggestions on cooking allosaurus.

Sholeh had been staying in the hotel, too, what with Evan not having a room at the dorm and Sholeh not wanting to sleep alone what with the terrifying noises at night. So heading down to class was pretty easy and it meant that she'd have a chance to eat before heading to the library.

Emma had been more than eager enough to break out her armour and sword to fight her way to class today, even if the only thing she'd ended up encountering was one of the smaller feathery not-dragons (and she'd thought swans were bad tempered).

Which meant she spent half the time watching Hannibal for ideas on how to prepare her own kill and half surreptitiously neatening up, because you didn't actually need an etiquette teacher to know it was rude to show up to dinner dishevelled and gore streaked.

Hannibal eyed her curiously, but first things first. "There is a restroom just there," he pointed, "where you can clean up if you like."

Blood and gore everywhere were such a hassle.

Emma wasn't entirely sure why he was eyeing her, sure she didn't usually wear leather armour to class, but under the circumstances. She decided it was probably just the not-dragon blood.

"Thanks," she said, inclining her head. Because you didn't curtsey in armour, it looked ridiculous.

Actually, it was more the, "who are you and what did you do with the snarky street rat". But if she was anything like the others who'd been changed, Hannibal didn't think asking would get very far.

"You're very welcome." He bowed his head back at her. "We wouldn't want to get blood on the furniture."

Well, technically it was more a case of what her parents and step-grandmother didn't do.

But she was still plenty capable of snark. "Yeah," she said with a smile, even as she carefully avoided brushing against anything. "That would be about the worst thing that could happen this week."

Re: Lecture?

[identity profile] never-dull.livejournal.com 2014-03-28 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Hannibal laughed. "Well, the hotel might think so. Also, I can't imagine it's comfortable."

Eat Hannibal's food!

I bet you've never had dinosaur before!

Re: Eat Hannibal's food!

There seemed to be a lot of meat today, so Sholeh didn't feel guilty about raising her hand and asking, "Sir? Would you mind if I brought the leftovers to the library today? For the researchers?"

"Not at all." Hannibal nodded and smiled at her. "I will be heading there myself after class, and perhaps Mr. Starsmore would be willing to escort us once again. I'm sure the food will be welcome."

Since 'dinosaurs' were very thin on the ground in the Enchanted Forest that was true enough, on the other hand...

"It tastes kind of like chimera," Emma paused to say, she was never going to be dainty eater, but she had enough manners not to bolt her food either. "The snake part."

Re: Eat Hannibal's food!

[identity profile] never-dull.livejournal.com 2014-03-29 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've never had the pleasure of eating chimera," Hannibal answered. "Is it a common dish where you're from?"

"It's not really something people go hunting for if they don't have to," Emma said. What with there being many other creatures where there weren't even odds of them trying to snack on you instead. "But they're pretty edible, so there's no sense wasting the meat if you kill one."

"A very sensible attitude," Hannibal noted approvingly. "And rather like the rationale behind this meal."

And some of his others, but that was neither here nor there.

Talk to Hannibal!

After his own class, Jonothon made his way to Hannibal's. In part because he'd been invited, yes. In part because, really, it wasn't like he had anything more productive to be doing, besides blowing up radscorpions in the swiftly changing streets.

//So, any success actually doing something with that thing?//

Re: Talk to Hannibal!

[identity profile] never-dull.livejournal.com 2014-03-28 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"I went with simple steaks," Hannibal answered. "Since the meat was unfamiliar, and I wanted its own taste forefront. I was able to get it fairly tender."

He set out dishes of that and curled greenery. "Sauteed ferns seemed to be appropriate greenery to accompany it. And lavender shaved ice."

It was a Jurassic theme.

//Sensing a bit of a theme, there,// Jono noted, letting his psi senses move over the whole spread. //Looking forward to sampling it.//

He'd never had... any of the things Hannibal just listed off. This was going to be quite the experience.

Jonothon was all too happy to, pulling up a nearby chair.

//Gladly. And how has your day been treating you, mate?//

"Quietly, so far." Hannibal made sure everything was set out for as many students as might come, then sat himself. "I'll be heading to the library later, but I spent most of my time so far determining how to cook this. And you?"
furnaceface: (Headless - Excelsior)

Re: Talk to Hannibal!

[personal profile] furnaceface 2014-03-28 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
//Less quietly,// Jono sighed. //I was hoping that at least some of my students would be sensible enough to not come to class today, whether or not I spelled out for them that it would be ridiculous to make their way in for classes today. I wound up with a handful in the classroom, and a few wandered past in the hallway besides.//

His life was so hard, Hannibal.

"The students here have seen enough that I suspect this may seem routine to some of them," Hannibal said. "Others seem to have little sense of self-preservation. And most teenagers feel they're immortal," he added with a smile.

Re: Talk to Hannibal!

[personal profile] furnaceface 2014-03-29 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
//Ah, immortality.// Jono would have rolled his eyes, if only he were able. //Learned my lesson about that one, back when. Ish. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by it. After all, I used to be a student here myself.//

And really, his class kind of called out to the students most likely to make terrible life choices, didn't it?

"Has anybody been seriously injured by this latest wave of insanity?" Hannibal asked. He cut himself a bite of the dinosaur steak, but politely waited for Jono's answer first. It seemed rude to interrupt his thoughts with food.

Re: Talk to Hannibal!

[personal profile] furnaceface 2014-03-29 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
//As a matter of fact, they have,// Jono replied, a little grimly. //One student of mine, Yeul, has literally no sense of self-preservation. She came into the classroom today bloodied and with torn clothing. She's got potions that'll heal the injuries, but it's a bloody miracle she wasn't completely mauled.//

For all he knew, she could very well have been.

//I think most students have the good sense to avoid the danger, but there are the odd few who just seem incapable of grasping that giant man-eating reptiles,// he gestured to the food, //and harpies and the like are actually dangerous.//

Re: Talk to Hannibal!

"Most of mine seem not to have that problem," Hannibal noted. His students being either armed, already there, or absent.

He was fairly certain saying that those who weren't careful enough would learn wouldn't be terribly reassuring, so instead he ate the bite of steak, chewing slowly and pulling apart the flavor.

OOC!

MMMM, dinosaur!
