Self-Expression- Monday- 4th period

Class was in a regular classroom today, with desks set up like normal. Nothing special today.

"We've probably passed a point where we can't go on having a so-called normal class with everything going on, especially in a class about self-expression," Kitty said, hopping up onto her desk to sit. "So let's talk about it. Anything you want to talk about: if you're in the wrong place, if you're researching and have found something or not found something, or whatever. After all, maybe someone's got something to say that might help us figure things out, right? So come on, let's make this class talky."

Will had no inclination to talk. Will was just going to sit there and stare straight ahead, trying not to seem too disdainful about being here and having to listen to these ridiculous lectures each week.

He saw no point of being here despite what Mr. Hobbes might have said. He disagreed. So, he was going to be of no help right now.

If Cosette's research had turned up anything, she wasn't saying so; her natural inclinations to trust people had been tempered by years of being around people who couldn't be trusted, and she'd learned to keep her mouth shut when she felt caution was necessary.

So she said nothing, instead taking out a little book of short stories she'd gotten from the library to read -- quietly, furtively, and very intently, like someone accustomed to having to steal a few moments of reading for luxury and do so as inconspicuously as possible.

"Not everyone's who showed up here is nice," Jim said, shaking his head. "Be careful who you talk to and what you reveal."

"At least one of them is," Jim said firmly. "And as much as wish this was true, she's not all talk. She's got a weapon that is...bad."

"Not something I've ever seen before, for one," Jim said, rubbing his knee as he said it. "It's like a baton but it isn't used to beat you with. If it touches you, it's like...the most intense pain I have ever felt in my life. It's horrible."

"Probably for the best, yeah," Jim said, nodding. Of course, he knew he wouldn't be avoiding since he didn't want her to hurt anyone else because he was a jackass.

"Differences have been noted," The One Who Speaks With the Voice of Many intoned. "The situation complicates the computations. The computations must be performed."

"The Greater Good," the One replied. "The triage imperative. The purpose for which this being was called into existence."

Totally cleared that one up.

"Similar," The One nodded. "More the solution to one. The pinnacle of ethical psychiatry: One who can speak with the voice of Many. Who can selflessly assess the greater good, and impose it. A benevolent dictator to save the world from itself."
