Coping With Change, Friday, Period 3
This week, the Coping With Change students would once again find two teachers, though the class itself was being held in the Danger Shop, as opposed to their usual classroom. And, once again, neither of their teachers looked particularly ordinary.
Who could have ordinary when you could have these two, right?
//This week,// Jono said, arms crossed over his chest and sounding only slightly irritated (which was an improvement on last week's 'distinctly annoyed,' at least), //we'll be spending the class period attempting to relax. Because⦠apparently that's also helpful when trying to cope with things.//
Things like the looming threat of being replaced with someone else similar to you, for example.
"Sometimes," Cecil said cheerfully, "if there's nothing you can do about a change, you just need to relax and accept it. And sometimes you'll find there's something you can do after all, when you think about it. And sometimes not, but then at least you're more relaxed, right?" The tattoos all over his arms and tentacles gave hundreds of tiny thumbs-up gestures.
Jono was just thankful that he couldn't make out the ink, really, without borrowing somebody else's eyes.
//Losing your head - don't say it, Cecil - won't do anybody any favours in a situation where the change is something that's bigger than they are. So he's right in that regard⦠sometimes what you need to do before you can set out to fix a problem or save the day is just take a few minutes to ground yourself. Take a few deep breaths or meditate, do whatever it is that keeps you calm.//
"So today we're keeping calm!" Cecil added. Bouncing on your toes was totally "calm", right? "Some people like to say that floating in water is really relaxing, but...well, wet? In this weather?" He shuddered.
//So Cecil's going to bugger around with the gravity controls in here,// Jono said in the long-suffering tone of a man who wanted to be anywhere but hanging around a low-gravity Danger Shop with a bunch of stressed-out high school kids. //And we're going to float about for a bit. Won't that be fun.//
His excitement. Really.
Cecil's tattoos gave Jono a huffy side-eye and he poked him with a tentacle. "Lighten up!" Then his brain caught up, and he laughed. "Literally!"
//Clever.//
Cecil rolled (all three of) his eyes. Plus a bunch of eyes that showed up in tattoos. "Okay," he told the class, "we'll start slow; everybody be careful! And just enjoy the floating and relax." He went to the controls and started slowly decreasing the gravity. "Do you think we should have some relaxing music or nature sounds or something?" Like double-wolf howls or spiderwolf growls?
//I'll take care of the playlist, mate. You just make sure the Danger Shop doesn't drop anybody.//
"Sounds good!" At least Jono was finally getting into the spirit of it!
//Ugh.//

Lecture!
Well, Cecil keeps getting weirder. Jono's pretty consistently weird anyway.
Relax!
What? He finds it relaxing.
Just no horsing around. Danger Shop safety protocols are in effect, but neither of your teachers wants to risk a run to the clinic, either.
Re: Relax!
She drifted, instead, from corner to corner, exploring the feel of low gravity and listening to the sounds the teachers had provided.
It was a thoughtful sort of class, for her.
Re: Relax!
He was still worried about metalhead Jono and three-eyed Cecil, but flying made up for it a little.
Re: Relax!
And after a few moments, she even stopped worrying about someone being able to look up her skirt as she floated in the air. She closed her eyes, just letting herself be. There was no shifting universe here, no Mama, no confusion, no magic. It was the most peaceful she'd felt in weeks.

Re: Relax!
Well, that, and the doctor had cautioned against spending any length of time in low- or zero- gravity. It weakened the bones.
Joker floated blissfully, just a few inches off the floor. When the gravity came back, he didn't want to fall far.
Re: Relax!
Talk to the Teachers!
Talk to Jono
... Now that he was able to break gravity's pull somewhat, it wasn't like he was going to stay grounded.
Talk to Cecil!
He'll be floating about aimlessly and happily, tentacles drifting, and occasionally remember he's supposed to be keeping an eye on things.
OOC!
Nooo idea.
