Advanced Criminal Justice, Monday, Period 3
"Yes, I'm a woman. Yes, I always have been as far as I can tell. Yes, I know that's probably not what you normally expect," Batwoman said. What a way to start class, right? "This class is still Advanced Criminal Justice. That's all you should be focused on."
"If you're planning on fighting a largely solitary war on crime, one of your most important tools is stealth. You will always be outnumbered. If you're captured, you will need a way to escape on enemy territory," Batwoman said. "I dress in black and work at night. That helps. Years of training to move silently is better. Misdirection can be key. And when you need a little extra help..."
Batwoman dropped a few small silver pellets. After they bounced on the roof for a couple seconds, smoke started to pour out of them. "... You make your own cover."
She went silent, and by the time the smoke disappeared, she was no longer there. "Your task," Batwoman said from behind them, pulling that move off with stealth, "is to make it from this rooftop down to the lobby of this building as stealthily as possible. This building is four stories tall. There are cameras in the stairwell. There are occasional guards in the hallways. There are guards at the front entrance, if you choose not to go through the building. The back entrance is locked."
She didn't say anything about windows. She was curious if anyone would try to use them.
"You will have some tools at your disposal," she said, gesturing to a table behind her. "You'll find your chosen weapons here and a utility satchel. The satchel contains a grapple, three batarangs, six smoke pellets that will activate seconds after impact, and an emergency button to hit if you're in too much trouble to stop the simulation."
"If you're spotted by a guard or a camera, guards will rush to your position unless you eliminate the camera or guard quickly enough. If they have enough time to call for help, I suggest taking them out and getting out of that area fast. And remember, no killing."
"I'll meet you in the lobby. After you run through the simulation, you'll run through it two more times. If you fail any of these runs, use the experience as a lesson. The layout of the hallways and guards will be the same at the start of each run."
"Collect your tools," Batwoman said as she leaped off the roof and fired her grapple. "I'll meet you in the lobby."
A few seconds later, if you listened carefully, you could hear the sound of bones cracking from the front of the building. And then, from a speaker on the roof, her voice said, "I'm waiting."
