Students are given handouts on balance.
"Balance basically refers to whether the art work looks like it's going to fall over any second. Now this can be a good thing if that was the look you were going for, but on the whole, the vast majority of good art works contain some form of balance.
"There are two main forms of visual balance used in art. Symmetrical and asymmetrical.
"Symmetrical balance is pretty basic. The elements on one side of the work are mirrored on the other side. This gives a very stable form of balance.
"Asymmetrical balance is a bit trickier. It involves using repetition, size, positioning, and colour value to balance out the various elements of an artwork."
"There's no homework this week as you have a midterm coming up, so be sure to study hard for it."
