Handling Your Powers, Tuesday

"Today, I wanted to talk about daily life applications of your powers," Kaidan said. "Some of you rely on them like that already, some of you don't... some of you might not have to. Still, it's a good exercise in restraint, if nothing else."

"So I've set up a... training course, I guess you could call it. You don't need to do everything - just touch on the stuff you know you can do. You're not getting graded on this either. Just use it for practice."

One by one.

This week's class opened with the usual exercises, followed by a meditation session more about exploring your ability for fine manipulation than anything else.

There were several stations set up across the hall. Kaidan threw in another, "Remember, only try your hand at what you can do with your powers," before stepping aside.

An array of ropes, hanging from the ceiling just far enough apart that you can't comfortably jump from one to the other.

There's a divider with a large open slot in it. Behind it, there's a table with a set of glasses full of water, just out of reach.

Get the glass without using your hands-- or at least using them the normal way.

Well, sort of.

There's a line of cans set up and, in some places, stacked up on the other side of this range. Use your powers to hit each in turn.

There are a couple of targets pasted to the ceiling itself here. They're covered in velcro - as are the little balls lying on a table below.

Try and hit the targets.

There are juggling balls. This one's pretty straightforward.

Finally - though Kaidan didn't expect many of them to try it - there was a set-up with some clay. Behind the clay were images of houses in ascending order of complexity.

For those with more creative powers, they could try and mimic it.

As always, albeit this time after the course had finished.

Kaidan stuck around for a while after class. He didn't need to clean things up - it was still the Danger Shop for a reason - but he wanted to take stock of how things had gone.

Evan Sabahnur

Oh, easy. Evan wasn't going to use his rocket boots for this-- They weren't technically one of his powers, though they were useful in a pinch.

Nope, Evan was going to simply reach from one rope to the next. And, by the end of them, he even skipped every other rope, mostly to see how well he could manage it.

Decently well, really. His arms had a lot of stretch in them.

More stretching! This stuff came way too easily to Evan, so he almost felt guilty for just reaching through the slot and making up the difference with his powers, but that was the point of the exercise... so...

Will West

For this one, Evan chose to use his eye blasts, instead. It was... kind of overkill, but it felt good to have a setup where he could just let go and shoot things with them in a safe environment, too.

Tin cans were way more relaxing to shoot at than unicorn killers.

This one, Evan really didn't want to simply stretch in order to do. And eye blasts here would just obliterate the targets and the little velcro balls completely. He pursed his lips in thought for a moment, and then decided to go for a different tactic completely.

His aim with a slingshot wasn't the best, but it was worth a try. Turning his hand into one made things a bit easier. A lot of the little velcro balls didn't make it - okay, so he'd have to work on that - but a few of them did, and so he was going to consider that a win.

This was more Nick's thing than Will's but he was going to give it a go anyway. He hoped the enhancements he had would make it a little easier for him to swing and climb.

And he did manage though it was slower than he would have liked.

Easy enough.

Will reached out, found the glasses with his mind, gripped them and brought one back right into his hand. It hadn't even winded him.

Still using his telekinesis, Will reached out, picked up each can and then dropped them. Not quite shooting but he hadn't really mastered throwing other objects just yet. This would do.

This was almost like the coin thing he'd been doing on the roof. Will picked the velcro balls up and tossed them in the air. He caught the ball with his mind, suspended in the air and then flung it at the target.

It took a few tries to hit three but he managed.

Eleanor Lamb

Eleanor wasn't sure how exactly she should ideally get across. She settled for teleporting to one of the ropes near the middle, and then one nearer to the end, and then the last platform.

Did that count? It felt a bit like cheating.
