How to Cope with Being Suddenly Famous, Thursday Second Period

Herc had, upon getting a good look at his class roster this morning, considered just turning around and leaving and not doing this to himself, but in the end it turned out he was a glutton for punishment. By the time he arrived for class, no one would guess he'd spent most of the morning pacing in his office and muttering pep talks to himself while Max looked on in doggy confusion.

"Right, listen up," he said as he entered the room with Max on his heels, only a minute or two late, "I'm Herc Hansen--that's Mr. Hansen to you lot--and this is Max. Max has run of the classroom, so be nice to him." Herc suspected that wouldn't be hard. "But I want you paying attention to me, not--not my dog." The back of his mind kicked over to panicking over how he'd deal, what he'd say, when Chuck finally thought to wonder why Max was with him now. The rest of him kept going with his carefully rehearsed speech. "If you're here, you're either famous, or you think you might be someday, or you're not sure why you're here but hey, might be useful for you someday too, right? You never know. Take me. I used to fly helicopters. I was pretty good at it, but I wasn't anything special, and then--well. Things changed. I turned out to be able to do something that needed doing, something very few people could do. Something that had nothing at all to do with flying helicopters. We were all famous all of a sudden, and some of us dealt with that better than others." His brother, for example, had dealt with it really, really badly. "So," he said, a wry twist at the corner of his mouth, "I'm hoping you can learn from me.

"Now, you've probably had to introduce yourselves a fair few times already this week, but I don't know all of you yet, so we're gonna do that. Name, why you're in the class, what you'd like to learn from it if you have some idea already. Go."

When they'd finished, he steeled himself and added, "Chuck, if you could please see me after class. I have a job for you."

Emma fell into the 'no idea why she was in this class' category, so she was definitely distracted by the dog.

Chuck wasn't distracted by Max, per se, though his eyes kept following the older dog from right above where he was cradling Max's... younger... self?

Ugh. (He'd probably get around to realizing that other question was a Thing when he'd gotten over the--- whatever the hell-- of everything else.)

The thought of leaving tiny Max at home hadn't even crossed his mind, though. The old man would just have to deal.

Flick wasn't sure why he'd chosen this class but it'd sounded cool, so why not? He was still mentally drained from yesterday but he felt a bit better about things.

Who knew this place would be the one to do that? So, while he listened, he watched the dog run around and smiled to himself.
shippedtomaine: (Nope. No idea what you mean.)

"I'm Emma, and it seemed like it could be useful." Somehow. Maybe.

"You know who I am," Chuck drawled, sprawling as much on his chair as he could without jostling the bulldog puppy in his lap. "But for the rest of the class: I'm Chuck Hansen. I'm here because this situation of his is in my near-future-- I'll be looking forward to tales about Uncle Scott."

Yeah, that was the first person he'd thought of when Herc mentioned the not-dealing-so-well. For obvious reasons, really.

"I'm Flick," he started, "and I'm in this class because it sounded like it could be handy."

He'd love to get famous for bringing down Mandel and his entire academy.

"And I guess I'd like to learn how to deal with people that wanna bring you down in the aftermath of everything."

"Raleigh Becket," he said, looking around. "I think there was a mix up because I was supposed to be taking history."

Yes. It was important.

"But it'd be fun to be famous."

Ahahahahahasobs.

AHAHAHAHAHASOBS.

"Are we gonna cover TMZ? Because they're kinda douchey."

"Go home, Rayleigh," Chuck called from his end of the room. "Nobody asked you."

Thanks, Chuck. Thanks.

Raleigh turned to glare at the kid. Because he didn't even know him. "You got a problem?"

"Your face," Chuck said helpfully. "Or rather, your head. You're blocking my view."

Chuck wasn't a dick for no reason. Raleigh Becket was a useless glory hound of a Jaeger pilot who had a habit of overreaching. Not as bad as Uncle Scott, but honestly?

And if you thought that wasn't good cause for an irrational hate-on, well, you'd clearly never met Chuck Hansen.

He rolled his eyes, but said nothing else. He'd made his point.

"Shane Gooseman," Goose said, "I'm here because my guardian signed me up for this class so he must have thought it would be useful for me," he wasn't sure how but Commander Walsh's class choices hadn't always made much sense.

"William Murdoch," he introduced himself late because the player's internet was being a dick yesterday. "I'm here because-" and the blush that creeped up on his features pointed out that he was aware of how ridiculous this sounded, thank you, "- apparently in a possible future, I make something of a name for myself as a detective. I'd like to learn about- maintaining one's privacy while in the public eye, I suppose."

"What do you want?" Chuck asked, managing the amazing feat of sounding bored and agitated at the same time.

Tiny Max barked, happily confused.

Chuck reached down idly to pat Large Max on the head, trying not to jostle Tiny Max too much.

"Can't handle it on your own, can you?" he said, because... well, he kind of had to get some digs in. "Yeah, sure. Not like I have anything better to do."

Thanks to someone.
