Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

It was a new year, and with the new year came the new spring term, and Fandom High was all set to welcome its new students, along with those just returning from holiday trips home. It was a familiar setting for the latter bunch: there was the requisite bonfire, with tables and chairs scattered around it, as well as the buffet table with moddable warm food and drinks.

And of course, name tags and lists of Big and Little Siblings as well as roommates. Yep, the weather was okay (if snowy) for early January, and Fandom was all ready to celebrate the start of a new term.

[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Thaaaaaaanks," she drawled, raising her eyebrows. "Soooo, what do I need to know? Like, let's start with the important part first: do I get to wear a mask like that to teach? Because I totally would but only if I could use it on dates too."

"You can if you'd like," Batman responded. "But you have to provide your own."

"Do you have any experience with teaching or dealing with teenagers?"

"Ummmmm." Cheryl actually thought for a moment, and said, "Not since I was one. I'm mostly here 'cause my boss gets a tax write-off. But they're teenagers! They can like, take care of themselves, can't they? I can pretty much give them some blocks to play with or whatever and turn them loose?"

Oh, Cheryl.

"Not quite," Batman said, lifting an eyebrow. "What class are you teaching?"

"The Modern Workplace & You: Preparing for the Future in Today's Corporate Environment," Cheryl recited dutifully. "I think I'm mostly teaching them how Xerox works? I dunno, Pam wrote the syllabus."

"In that case, you're probably close enough with the block idea," Batman said. "You're partnering with another teacher?"

"Yeah, she came with me," she said, nodding over to a large blonde woman dressed similarly to herself WHO I MODDED AS BEING HERE, GO AHEAD AND STOP ME. "Our boss gets a tax write-off if ISIS teaches a class, and Pam messed up her gun safety class in New Yorkby giving the kids guns to take home or whatever, so we ended up here instead. Which, whatever, I never get to go on field trips so this is awesome."

As it turned out, Batman's neutral grim stare wasn't as grim as his stare could get.

"Make sure she doesn't mess up like that here."

Helpful advice which sounded a lot like a threat! Because it was one.

"Duh," Cheryl said, rolling her eyes. "Then I'd have to go back to answering the phone."

Great priorities over here.

"So like what else do I need to know? Because I'm pretty sure this is like the easiest job ever."

"It can be," Batman said. "Teach what you know. Help where you can. Be prepared for a very peculiar place. This isn't New York."

"New York's already really peculiar," Cheryl said, frowning at him. "And I work for ISIS, mister. I know weird, trust me. Though we don't usually wear sex masks to work, but hey, you do you."

"It's got nothing on Fandom," Batman said. "What's ISIS? I'm not familiar with it."

"Oh, right. That's because it's secret?" Cheryl wasn't great at that part of her job -- though she wasn't nearly as bad as Mr. Archer, at least. "The International Secret Intelligence Service. We have like, spies."

"It doesn't exist in my world," Batman explained. "Otherwise I would have known about it."

"I trust you're not a spy, right?"

"I'm the office manager," Cheryl decided, right then and there, because it sounded way better than 'Ms. Archer's Secretary.' "And Pam over there does HR. But, you know, sometimes we have to fill in to do the dangerous stuff, too."

Like never. Like literally never did that happen.

"You think you should've heard of it, though?" Cheryl eyed him. "You did hear the part where it's secret, right?"

"I didn't say I should have known about it," Batman said. "I would have known. I make it a point to know about these things."

"Are you a secret agent?" she asked dubiously. "You're not really blending in real well right now."

"I'm a crimefighter," Batman said. "And if I wanted to blend in, you'd never know I was here."
