Jono was conspicuously missing from the front of the classroom today.
"Hey," Karina said, standing where Jono usually did. She gave a little wave. "I'm obviously not Jono, or Mr. Starsmore, or whatever you want to call him." She called him 'big and blue' when she was cranky with him after all. She couldn't judge. Much. "He's not coming in today. Apparently the polar bears have trapped him in the theatre and he's chicken." Er. "Not literally."
Karina was a fabulous person to have tapped as substitute teacher, clearly. What the hell, Jono?
"Anyway," she carried on, "he mentioned something about a sport called 'Kirball' that we were supposed to go and see today, but I'm ignoring that and changing his Portalocity reservations. He can cope. The school is paying for this anyway."
Not that she knew how the school could afford it but that wasn't her concern.
"Go back to the dorms, grab your swimsuits, and whatever else you need for a day spent at an indoor waterpark." She smiled for the first time during the lecture. "Because we're heading to West Edmonton Mall World Waterpark. If you want to ditch the waterpark and just go shopping in the mall, or do something else there, go wild. We can stay until the place closes."
That was probably not Jono would have said but, again, he could just suck it up and deal. It had been his idea to put her in charge. He could totally pay the price for that.
